NC Nestie in St. Louis - looking for dinner recs

Hey Ladies - I am in town for business until friday, and I am looking for one nicer dinner rec and one casual dinner rec for downtown St. Louis.

We are staying at the Ren Grand - so we would like to stay around the downtown area, but are willing to take a cab somewhere.

The last two times we have been here we have gone to Michael Shannons.  As much as we loved it, we would like to try something else.

Thanks!!!

  • What time of food are you looking for?  (sea food, Italian, steak house, etc?)
  • We are up for anything! More towards steak and seafood though.

We ended up going for Mexican last night - to a new restaurant on Washington.

Tonight we wanted to go for nicer.

  • I love Sage.  Its down near the Brewery, which is just south of downtown, so a quick cab ride.  Oh, so good.  Its a nicer dinner.

If you want casual try Square 1 Brewery which is in Lafayette Square, just southwest of downtown.

If you go to saucemagazine.com you can search by location for restaurants.

  • Never been, but my sister raves about An American Place.  It is near your hotel on Washington.  I've been wanting to go.  It would likely be your nicer dinner.

There's also Lucas Park Grill, Fifteen, Kitchen K and The Dubliner.  Not sure how the food is at these places, but I've generally heard good things.

  • In addition to Sauce.com, try looking at http://stlouisoriginals.com
  • Thanks ladies! I'll check out those sites!
  • F15teen is great--the steaks are awesome.  The building is very loft-like, so the atmosphere is cool too.  Lucas Park Grille is similar, but a little less intimate than F15teen (and Lucas Park is walking distance from your hotel--F15teen is around Locust and 20th, so it's a bit of a hike).

An American Place is good, but it is very expensive, and the portion sizes were fairly small the last time I was there.  If work is paying, though, it might be worth it to check out!

Mosaic is another good choice on Washington.  It's tapas, so I'd call it upscale-casual.

There's Kemoll's, a very traditional Italian place.  Not real hip, but the food is good.  And there's always Tony's, which is always ranked as the best restaurant in town, but it's got the prices to match.

Most of my absolute favorites are just south of downtown, in the Lafayette Square/Soulard/Benton Park areas.  If you want to drive, I'd recommend 1111 Mississippi or Vin de Set or Niche or Sidney Street Cafe.  All amazing!

Also try that if you find a restaurant you'd  like to try out -- that is a way to save a little money while you're here :)
