Ok, i'm back on the Mac train! LOL. i wanted one a couple years ago and then came DS. Everything i've heard about the Macs have been amazing reviews, but i'm scared! LOL. i'm so good at the PC, that i'm afraid of getting on a Mac and not even know the simplest things. I know they have Office for the Mac, is it about the same to navigate? What are the pros/cons? did you get a good deal anywhere, or is it about the same price where ever you go? Macbook vs. iMac? i like having the desktop w/regular keyboard and mouse....
I mostly want it for the photo editing, webpage, etc and i've heard it's amazing and easy for photo stuff!
HELP! What do you think?? What helped you make the decision to switch?
Sorry for the rambling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Mac vs PC?? HELP!
We have an iMac that we got in November and we love it! ?It is really simple to navigate, and it's intro/tutorial is helpful if you have no Mac experience.?
The Office applications are essentially the same, Pages (Word), Keynote (Power Point), Numbers (Excel). ?And you can save them in formats so that they are compatible with Windows operations. ?I have had *a few* issues trying to do this when emailing documents, but for the most part, it hasn't been a problem. ?Some of the other applications included on the Mac, iPhoto, iDVD, iTunes, iMovie, Garage Band, are pretty awesome and very easy to use. ?We use iPhoto a TON and we are in the process of making a slideshow for Ella's first birthday w/ iMovie/iDVD that is really neat and quite easy since all of our photos are in iPhoto already! ?And putting the music in is easy b/c we can use anything on our computer or anything from our iTunes list! ?If you are curious about the operating system, you can watch the demonstration of Leopard (Mac's current OS) at apple.com. ?
We got a slight discount on ours b/c of DH's friend who works at the Mac store. ?Other than that, you can check into you or DH's work to see if you can get discounts through there.?
We got a desktop and it takes up hardly any room! ?It's pretty amazing. ?This is DH's first Mac and we decided to go w/ it b/c of all the problems we've had w/ PC's (and laptops) in the past and from recommendations. We have been really happy with it and everything it can do! ?And we did purchase the extra service warranty. ?If you aren't familiar w/ Macs, they can be more difficult to fix on your own. ?(Though we've had ZERO problems so far). ?Also, Consumer Reports consistently rates Macs (both desktop and laptop) highly as well as their customer service.
Hope this helps and if you have any other questions, I'd be glad to help!?
Roger made the switch last fall and he loves his. I only use it when he's home to surf on the internet from around the house (I have a desktop and he has a laptop). We switched because of brand reputation and the lack of susecptability to viruses and other problems. We did get a discount on it from the apple store, but I think it was a military discount and not an airline discount that we got. If you have a sibbling or family member in school, I know they offer student discounts and you might be able to save a little bit if you have that person formally make the purchase.
I don't use Roger's enough to give you all the pros and cons, but I will say that whenever there has been something that is different between a pc and a mac, I've been able to figure out the solution right away on the mac. For example, right clicking and selecting copy or paste or whatever like you would on a pc is done differently on a mac, but they make it so easy to figure out. So far, no cons for us.
I have the Macbook Pro (little more expensive) but its the artists one, for photoshop and all that jazz. I also purchased an older desktop version, from the 90's (currently selling if your interested) Which is a great investment if you can find one cheep.
I find mac to be A LOT more user friendly once you get the hang of it. At first its kinda crazy but afterwards its great. I've never had to tear into mine or reformat it. And they NEVER get viruses and don't need norton (its useless on a mac) so thats a huge money saver right there
I would never go back
