Reproductive Endocrinologist/Fertility Specialists
Hey ladies! I live in Des Moines but I am looking for another RE in Iowa or even Illinois. I am not happy with my current RE and am trying to find someone new.
Do any of you know of anyone in your area that you would recommend?
Thank you!

Re: Reproductive Endocrinologist/Fertility Specialists
The only one I know of two in the Peoria area. One I have heard of is Sher. The office is part of a nationwide network. I don't know of anyone personally that has used them. I'm still part of the "kids have got to be 5 years away" camp.
I had a previous co-worker do an IUI (resulted in a baby girl) at a doctor's office at the Methodist Atrium (900 Main Street, Peoria). She gave the place a thumbs up. I haven't talked to her in a few months though. Sorry I don't know the exact name of the doctor.
Thanks for stopping by! I would be curious where you ended up going to for your "2nd opinion." I've got this hunch that fertility problems exist (but haven't opened Pandora's box yet... just know that getting *maybe* one period a year isn't normal... old GYN when I was 20 and single said I would "be fine" and come back when I'm ready to get preg... they weren't going to run any tests on me then. New GYN didn't find anything wrong 2 years ago when they did blood work and sonograms... le sigh...)
Holy cow! That would freak me out. I would have told my doctor to figure out what's going on at that time. I hate not knowing.
Yeah well, they've run whatever tests they wanted and everything looked fine. So I don't know what gives. Have an IUD right now, so it's been 13 months now since my last period, and that was the first and only period I had after getting the IUD.That sucker will be staying in for quite awhile- had to pay out of pocket for it (stupid insurance).
I will say I highly recommend an IUD for anyone. I should have done it a long time ago, but was chicken. Sorry if it sounds like I am hijacking the thread!
Have you seen an endocrinologist? I went through something similar and after 7 months with no period, my OB sent me to a endo who determined I have prolactinoma - a tumor on the pituitary gland that causes your body to produce excess prolactin. I'm not actively treating it now (breastfeeding), but if the tumor is larger its something that needs medication to prevent growth.
Even if whatever you have going on isn't that serious, your body is sending you a message that something isn't right. I would find a new OB - especially if you plan on having kids. You don't want to wait until you're ready to find out that you're going to have trouble TTC if its something you could have actively been treating all along.
I saw an endocrinologist when I was 18 or 19 back in my hometown (felt like the only person w/o diabetes there). I had the endocrinologist and GYN from my hometown forward my records to the local GYN office I selected here (I go to Couri & Teverbaugh in Peoria). I honestly don't know what those records say, just recall that it wasn't something to worry about at that time (age 18/19).
I'm kinda screwed right now as I have the Mirena. So not sure how that's going to effect any tests I would take or have run at the moment. DH is well aware of the situation and we agreed to some boundaries if we go the infertility treatment route.
Yes I have issues. Maybe I'm just not ready to face the facts? Or fear of how much it will cost to find out after insurance chips in their portion!
