Nikon D40 Q

Just noticed they are on sale at Costco.com for 550 or 600, is that a good price or rather typical?

Re: Nikon D40 Q

  • Check out this deal on ritzcamera.com- free shipping and some extras too! ?I think it's $499, which is the best I have seen. ?Some are cheaper on eBay too, but I hate bidding...

  • ok, so like 500ish, yeah that won't be in the budget for a while, or ever maybe!  Maybe if Bush decides to give us even more money I could swing it!  But one of our cameras takes such crap close up pictures, the flash is too bright and it sucks.

  • Never mind- you get a better lens with the Costco deal. ?We have a Canon PS 3 and I do love it (got an amazing deal on it last year), but that Nikon makes me drool. ?I really can't justify spending the $ on it, but with the way I take pics. it might be worth it. ?Plus our camera has a high resale value, so we could put the $ towards it.

Let me know if you wind up getting it.?

  • If I end up getting one, I won't have to tell you, you will know by looking at my siggy!  The pic wll be so clear!  A better shutter speed would be nice for us too, we fed Owen his sweet potatoes today, and we kept missing his funny faces on the camera!  It was cute, what a surprise he got w/ his first few bites.

  • Did he like the sweet potatoes? ?Ben loves them!

He tried bananas today and wasn't that impressed. ?He sure loves his veggies though!?

  • I bought mine at Best Buy for 499.00
  • I saw the D60 at Sam's Club for $700, so I would not pay $600 for the D40.

BTW, this is the camera I want to get DH for his birthday, he's been eyeballing the Nikon line for a couple years so I'll be getting either the 40, 50, or 60.

  • WAIT....if I'm reading this right, Ritz Camera is offering with D40 with BOTH the 18-55 AND the 55-200 for $579 with free shipping, while Costco is offering the D40 with the 55-200 VR for $599?  Holy crap, I paid about that much for my D40 with just the 18-55 kit lens!  If the Ritz Camera deal includes the 55-200 VR and not just the 55-200 (no VR), then definitely go with Ritz.

I have both the 18-55 and the 55-200VR, and I find that I actually use my 18-55 more.  Its the better lens (out of these two) for portrait/kid pictures.  For the pic in my sig I used the 55-200VR, because she was some distance from me.  Every time she came too close, I couldn't get the shot off because she was TOO close for that lens.  This pic was about the closest I could take with that lens.
