Possible move to Nashville area

Hi ladies!  My DH and I are possibly going to be moving to the Nashville area in the next couple of months.  My job would be in Brentwood and my DH will possibly work at the Gaylord Resort.  How long would it take for him to drive from the Brentwood area to the Gaylord?  And what are some good areas to live in that would in between?

 Thanks for the help!

Re: Possible move to Nashville area

  • I'm not positive how long it would take to get from Brentwood to Gaylord but I would estimate 30-40 minutes during rush hour.  It would depend on how far into Brentwood you live and what traffic is like.  I haven't lived in that area in a while so I'm not sure how bad it is on 65 but I do know they have 4 or so lanes so that probably helps.  We live in Sylvan Park (nearer to downtown/Vanderbilt) and my husband works somewhat near Gaylord and it takes him about 15 minutes because he is going against traffic the whole way.

Areas in between would depend on how much you want to spend, if schools are important, etc.  Green Hills is a great neighborhood but can be very expensive.  It is very family oriented though and the public schools (at least elementary) are very good.  There is a great mall, a new outdoor shopping development, Whole Foods, restaurants, a nice YMCA, etc.  Hillsboro Village is a great neighborhood as well.  A little more 'urban' and walking distance to several bars, restaurants, shops, etc.  Expensive as well.  Then again, price is all relative so you might find it to be reasonable.  You could also check out Sylvan Park, Cherokee Park and 12th South.

If you go to www.realtracs.com , choose area 2 and put in Hillsboro for the high school I think it will cover all the areas that I listed.  You can narrow your search by bedrooms, baths, price, etc.  This should give you an idea of what it out there in those areas.

    Good luck!

  • You could also check out Bellevue which is another great area (good for families, lots of building going on right now) if you are looking for a little bit cheaper than Green Hills, Sylvan Park, etc.  It is also Area 2 on realtracs (zip code 37221).  Living in Bellvue will also allow you to hit Brentwood via backroads rather than the interstate & would probably take about 30 minutes to Opryland (depending on traffic).

     HTH

  • I live in Bellevue and work on the East Side of town.  It takes me about 20 minutes to get to work on a bad day, so I would estimate that it would take roughly 30 or 40 minutes to get to Gaylord from Bellevue.  It would probably take more like an hour to get to Gaylord from Brentwood because that area has blown up so much in the past few years.  I grew up in Brentwood and I hardly recognized it when I came back after college.

If you don't have kids yet, I would definitely recommend the Berry Hill area, or Sylvan Park.  They are very trendy and very unique.  East Nashville is also becoming the hip place to live, but I'd stay away from there if you're not using an honest realtor.  It's one of those situations where you could live on a really nice block, but you turn the corner and you fear for your life.
