Wedding gown preservation

Hello everyone!

Today marks our 1 month anniversary. I need to get my dress cleaned and preserved, any one have any rec's in the valley? TIA!

Re: Wedding gown preservation

  • LOL, my dress has been hanging in the hall closet in it's bag ever since our wedding day, 2+ years ago!  I guess I should get it cleaned, but I dread spending $200+ to get it cleaned-- the dress didn't cost much more than that!

  • I just got this done, I've been married about 6 months.  I was looking for a place in the valley but everyone I checked was around $250.  I found an online place www.wedclean.com and they did a good job.  My dress was very dirty underneath and on the train from being outside and the majority of that came out.  It comes packaged nicely in a huge box.

  • Mine's still in the bag from our wedding in August of 07. I really don't want to pay the money to get it cleaned. I have thought about just selling it. I really don't expect my daughter (if I get one, I know I'm going to get all boys) will want to wear it when she gets married. Styles change so much and mine wasn't just a simple a-line dress. Not sure what I'm going to do yet.

  • I can't help you as I am 11 months married with a non-cleaned gown hanging in the closet.

I actually think I'll end up donating it to Brides for Breast Cancer.

  • Thanks for the info.

I may or may not part with it, not sure either.

  • Just a heads up girls! My MIL just made a baby blanket and a dress out of my sisters wedding gown! She had pics taken of her 4 month old baby girl in the dress on the blanket and they turned out sooo cute! I will have hubs scan the pic so I can post it!

MIL owns a drapery shop and the girls there are very very talented! If anyone is interested I can ask MIL how much she would charge! I think a blanket is an awesome keep sake that you can pass on to your child and wont take up space in the closet!

  • I always thought that was an awesome idea Kirstin.  Unfortunately I don't think that my taffeta gown would make a very comfy blanket :(

My dress is still in the bag from the day I had my TTD pictures done.  I'm scared that I'll open it and steam will come pouring out.

I too plan on donating mine.  I love my dress, but I have no emotional attachment to keeping it in a box for 40 years.

  • Here is the photo of my Niece in the dress and blanket MIL made out of my sisters wedding dress!

She seriously looks like a little angel!

  • hehehe I can see him having an issue with a dress...but a blanket is a blanket...It is kinda girlie though
  • I used the wedding preservation company - I got the box to send it back in from the Wedding Accessory Superstore and sent it off. I don't know of anyone local to have do it though. It took me about 1.5 years to send it off though.
  • mine is also all boxed up and under the stairs in the way back. i had to send it out of state but i remember them being reasonable. it's really pretty all packaged up but i only see it when digging out my holiday decor now

  • I used Prestige cleaners to clean and preserve.  The cost was around 300, but they came recommended and I had heard bad things of other places.

It took me almost a year before I got mine cleaned too (I hated to spend the money on it), but I have heard that if you leave your dress in the plastic bag over time it will yellow the gown.  I would either donate, sell or get it cleaned, otherwise it is going to be worthless.
