Re: electricity bill

  • Wow...that's like unheard of here in the summer.  We live in a 2 bedroom apt and our summer bills range from 150-230 depending on the use of the air.
  • Wow, that is super low. That is how ours is in the Winter. Ours is currently around 120 and thats just a one bedroom apartment.

  • That is a great bill! Ours was $349 last month... not looking forward to this months. We had to run the pool during the week days to get it working right...

Can I ask how big your house is, and what exactly the time of use plan is? We are on a 9pm-9am plan but our house is pretty big. We keep it at 79 while we are home and only run pool / dishwasher / washer at night... So I was thinking about switching plans but dont know what we should switch too...  I like the $110 drop that you had...

I would try moving your temp up to at least 82 during the day, and using ceiling and room fans.  We tried it this summer and are saving an average of $50 a month- that's only between 4 pm and 10 pm (it's at 85 between 6 am-4 pm) and our house is only 1600 sq.ft.  It's amazing what a difference a few degrees will make.

  • That's probably what she means, the 9-9 one. We're on that too and we're also on the equalizer so our bill is now going to be $149 a month (it was $138/month for the summer, average from the previous quarter) until december when they re-evaluate the useage and it will drop for the next quarter. It's kind of expensive in the summer but it's nice to have a set amount in the summer especially since we're on one income.

A lot of people shut their ac off when they leave which is a baaad idea. I turn it up to 78 during the day and it's at 76 at night

Do you mean that it's a bad idea to shut if off completely? If not, why? I put mine up to 83 during the day, and put it down to 78/7 when I'm home.

And yowza, I'd love a summer bill under $100. Do you keep your home at 90 degrees?!

  • Yeah, I meant bad to shut it off completely! It has to work soo hard to get back up to temp. I just leave mine at 78 when I'm not home to keep my fat lazy dog comfortable, lol. And I forget to turn it up a little Big Smile

  • Here http://www.srpnet.com/prices/home/Tou.aspx

We have a 1,700 sq ft home with a pool.

We set the a/c to 84 when we are gone and 77 when we are there.

  • Oh that's a nice deal! We haven't had SRP in a long time

  • Awww... we dont have SRP up here :(

I tried going up to 82/83 when home, but it is hot in here. If we leave for a long period of time, then I have no problem doing that, but being home all day with Will, he gets too hot and uncomfortable. He is one hot baby, haha!

  • We dont  keep our house  at  90 hahaha.  We keep  it at 80, turn  on  the  fans  and turn off the  a/c when  we  are not  around. Luckily  we  live  in  a 1100 ft condo  that  is  well north-south  located with a tree  infront  which keeps  the  house  from  getting  really  hot  during  the  afternoon.

We also try  to  unplug  the  appliances  that  we  are not  using with  the  exception  of  the  microwave,  stove,  heater, dishwasher, waste disposal,  dryer and  washer. we  are  also  very  careful turning  off the  lights.

I  think  the a/c  is  the  secret. specially  becouse  we were living  in a dessert city  in mexico  where  we  had  another  kind  of a/c,  and we  got  used  to not  being  in  cold  places (now  we  get  really  cold  in public  places).

    :)

  • i have a 3400 square foot home and we use the time of use plan and run our pool filter at night. we keep the house set at 82 when we're gone and 78 when we are home. it automatically switches at 7 am. because of the sunscreens we hve on the hous though our home stays at 80 degrees most of the time when we arn't home. my bill last months which was our most expensive wa $290
