I had my mid term for my Bio-Ethics class last week. It was a take home essay exam and it was grueling. I spent 21 hours on it.. not even exaggerating. I worked long and hard on this thing. She passed them back today. I was excited when she said she was going to but then she started talking. It seems that alot of people didnt understand the questions well so she divided us into two groups and the ones who seemed to understand the best got an A and the ones who struggled a bit got a...... get this..... an A-! I worked my ass off. I had only one comment from her on the test, which means i would have gotten a 98 (which is an A+). I am furious that i spent all that time on it and if i had just turned it in and had answered all the questions wtih no concern for content i would have still gotten an A-!! I mean dont get me wrong i am happy with an A but it pi$$es me off that i come to every class, do the work, put in time to learn and someone else who sailed in late, left early and didnt bother to put anything into it can get one grade below me. Would you be mad?
Re: Would you be mad too??
It would bother me, but I wouldn't let it bother me for to long b/c that just tends to happen in college.
I remember taking chem and getting high A's on exams and then at the end of the semester it didn't even matter b/c the kids who got C's and D's on the exams still ended up getting an A in the class. It was definately like why even bother, I could put no time and effort into the class and still end up with the same grade as people who were pretty much failing.
I started to look at it this way, once I got to my professional classes. It's not so much about the grades as it is about the knowledge that I gain b/c pharmacy (like nursing) is one of those degrees where you really do use what you learned in school. So as long as you feel confident with the material and the skills that you are learning, you will be in a much better position when it is time for you to be the nurse than some of the other students in your class. KWIM?
Yes, I would be mad. That is not fair at all.
But I'm so proud of you! You worked your butt off and you will be one of the few that actually does well. The others may skate by for now, but it will catch up with them in the end.
Good for you for really knowing your stuff!
I'd be most upset about getting an A instead of the A+ I deserved.
I don't think that that kind of grade inflation ever happened when I was in college. That's ridiculous. I understand scaling the grades up to some extent or allowing a re-take if the teacher felt she didn't teach it or explain it well enough, but an A- is frickin' ridiculous!!
