Photographer?

My husband and I would like to get some fun professional pictures taken.  Its just the two of us, so I guess it would be a little like an engagement picture session in that regards.

Looking for something that isn't too spendy.  Any recommendations on photographers?  We're in the Portland area.

Thanks!

Jennifer

Re: Photographer?

  • What is your budget? I can recommend my wedding photographer Craig Mitchelldyer, and another great recommendation is Laura Renee Photography.

  • I'd recommend Lauren Brooks.
  • Craig Mitchelldyer is FANTASTIC but super pricey...or at least he was 5 years ago when I talked to him...

There's a Nestie named PDXJenn that posts on the "Oregon Babies" board that is great.  We have been friends for several years and she took all of my maternity and baby pics so far...I think she charges $50-$75 depending on time and location, and that includes all of the pics...Check put her bio, there's several pics of me and a few other people in there. She's taken pics for several Nesties/Bumpies.

    Good luck!!

  • You can't beat this price...I was considering buying the "package"

  • Holy moly Kristin36! What a deal!!!
  • That looks like a smoking deal. My guess is that he is new to the area or relatively new to the field and is trying to attract clients with that super low rate. There is nothing wrong with that. I took a look at his website and he has some good photos but also some that I don't understand why they are in his gallery. You get what you pay for IMO. Craig can charge as much as he charges because he is really good. He takes awesome photos and gets you your photos back fully edited in record time.

I totally agree with this.  I think that for a wedding or something really special, he does great work.  But when I think "cute couple photos on a budget" I think $100-$150 range (if that).  I personally couldn't spend that much on a quick photo session!

  • That's true. I agree with that. We can't spend that money right now either. But if we could, I'd definitely go with someone that I know delivers high quality work.
  • Esther- I think we should both invest in some lottery tickets!  Doesn't extra money sound great right now??  I'm so ready for this economy to turn around.

  • I keep imagining what I'd do with all that money. Guess I have to buy a lottery ticket first to win anything ;). It would definitely make life easier not having to worry about jobs and mortgages and such....
  • Sorry, one more response from me. Jen, you said you'd spend no more than $100-$150 for photos. I was just checking out Craig's website yesterday and his sitting fee for a 45 minute session is only $50 and for $100 you get 3 custom prints and a 11x14. I'm not saying that's cheap but compared to other photographers that's not too spendy either.
  • Thanks Ladies!  I got spoiled with our engagement & wedding pictures...we got all our digital negatives.  So I was hoping to get the same for a family shoot.  And that just isn't available in that 100-150 range...which is what I was hoping for!

I'm looking into a couple different options, so hopefully something works out.

    Thanks again!

  • She's out of the $100-150 range but talent & quality are outstanding:
