I'd like to get one of those small netbooks, preferably in the $250-350 range. The only thing I need it to do is surf the internet, iTunes, pictures...that's about all.
So, my question is...how many MB, etc... do I need to do all this? And if you have a recommendation please let me know. There are way more netbooks out there than I realized!!
Re: Which Netbook to buy?
Well, one thing for sure is that if you are going to use it for photos, you will probably need to purchase an external hard drive to go with it. Most of the netbooks have pretty small hard drives, since they are designed just for surfing the internet and not for storage.
I can only speak to Dells (specifically the mini 9, which isn't available now), since that is what we have. I like the design of the Dells the best, though I don't love the keyboard layout. DH is also a die-hard fan of Dell's customer service, which was one of our deciding factors. Mine ended up with a bad battery and once we sent the info to Dell, they overnighted us a new battery!
I have used the Dell and the HP Mini. We buy the Dells for work (I work in IT for a bank) because we have a service agreement with them etc. BUT for myself I bought the MINI. I also upgraded the memory myself to 3 gb for $30.00. Remeber that these mini's are great if you just want to do little things with them but if you are wanting to run a lot of programs dont get it.
You will need to get an external hard drive but you can now get a T. Byte for under 100.00! You really shouldnt need one any bigger than that since this is the largest they make. Seriously, it will hold more than you can imagine.
Make sure you also realize the Dell battery sticks out on them. It is a little heavier (2 lbs or so) My HP fits into my pocketbook which is AWESOME. HP's battery is built into the body of it so you dont have to worry about having the battery sticking out anywhere on the laptop. Make sure you go to somewhere like Best Buy or even walmart and check out every detail possible.
Also, Dell's keyboards are HORRIBLE on these things. The HP is so much better. Larger keys and spaced better. Either way it will take a little getting used to but in the end I prefer the HP's.
We also started a new thing at the bank to where we are giving customers new Laptops. Gues what the bank chose to give to the customers. HP Mini's and not the Dells.

DX: Ovulation Disfunction DH:low volume, but good
3 clomid cycles (50MG - 150 MG): No Response
Femara (5MG) 2/2012: Weak ovulation BFN
Femara (5MG) 3/2012: BFP!!!!
I wonder if you have an extended-life battery or something on those, because the ones we got don't stick out the back at all (this is one thing I liked over a couple others I saw in stores). I'm with you on the keyboard thing, though, for sure! Especially the 9" version- I had to practically relearn how to type and the key action is crappy.
"They say with time it gets better. Not true. With time you only get used to it."
