Upgrade to Snow Leopard

The two of us currently both use Macs with 10.4 Tiger.  We held off on the 10.5 update but now I feel that there are so many applications moving to Leopard-only support that it might be worth upgrading to Snow Leopard.

Has anyone else gone through with the upgrade?  I've heard of people having some issues with it, but I'm not sure how prevalent the problems really are.

Re: Upgrade to Snow Leopard

  • We didn't have any problems.  It's been great, and it's made things a bit faster.

  • As long as you have an Intel Mac, you'll be good to go. The biggest problems with the new version are with compatibility with existing software. I highly recommend checking out this site before upgrading. Also make sure to have good back-ups first!

DH and I both went from 10.5 to 10.6 and the only problem I had was with my VPN software. I found an alternative, and all was fine.

  • I upgraded our iMac and haven't had any problems. I did do a clean install though. I still haven't upgraded the MacBookPro yet.
  • I just did both upgrades- I moved my old computer to 10.5, and then when I got my new one, I ended up qualifying for the $10 upgrade to Snow Leopard and I finally did it this weekend.  So far, the only problems I've had are related to World of Warcraft and Cyberduck, the little FTP client I use.  I don't have too much in the way of 3rd party software, though, and I imagine that would be where most problems would come in.
