dslr: canon xsi vs nikon d3000

I've narrowed it down to 2 cameras for H's Xmas present.

The Canon XSi or the Nikon d3000.

Does anyone have either? Any recomendations?

Do you know if your husband has a preference for Canon or Nikon? Most folks are sort of set on either -- and a lot of times just for the way it feels, etc.

I agree with PP, if I was going to buy a Nikon (and it wasn't a D90 or higher), I would go with the D5000. I recently bought a D40 and feel like I should have waited until the D5000 was released.

Did you consider the Canon Rebel T1i?  It is the most recent rebel and actually is a decent jump in features compared to the XSi.

they have also been introducing cameras at a really fast pace lately.  There are likely to be new cameras on the market by Xmas.  You might want one of them or it might make one of these cheaper if it's being replaced.

This. I used to work at Best buy and the new line normally comes out right around Thanksgiving so the "old" model would drop in price. 

Also if it's for your husband I know it's suppose to be a surprise, but you might want to take him to the store and have him play with both of them. I personally like how Canons feel in my hands and others prefer Nikon. It is completely up to the user.

When i was shopping, last November, i chose the xsi.  For my purposes, it was basically the same camera, but more affordable.  I am really pleased with it.  My only complaint is that the eyecup falls off all.the.time.  probably just my camera, though.

I have an older model canon rebel (xti).  I love it.  My main reason for buying the canon was the ability to interchange lenses with older models.  Nikon you can't do that (or at least you weren't able to do it).
