alternatives to the air mattress
I am looking at getting an air mattress for when company comes (either we sleep on it and they get our room or vice versa depending...). We have a very small apartment, only one bedroom, a living room, kitchen, small office off the living room (no door). I would love to have a guest room, but not space for it or a small bed. We have an old, old sofa that is a sleeper but it is not suitable for sleeping on. Are aero beds worth it? I also want to consider alternatives to the air mattress. Any ideas? (preferably under $100 but would appreciate all suggestions)
Re: alternatives to the air mattress
I think most sleeper sofas are pretty uncomfortable. We bought an aero bed at Costco, and I think it was one of our smarter purchases. The thing is, they pack away and they are comfortable.
I would suggest a trundle bed under a day bed, but that is way more expensive than $100.
We have an aero bed. It's fine for one person for a night or two, but for more than one person they're not great, even if they're large - you absolutely feel every little breath the other person takes. For under $100, I dont have any better ideas... we ended up buying a futon to remedy our situation, but it was about $300.
My DH is a very tall/broad shouldered guy, so not fat, but just big. We have a very hard time with air beds, mostly because they loose air due to his weight + the addition of mine.
Normally, I don't shop at Wal-Mart, but it was recommended to us. The mattress was abotu $100 and I want to say that it was Simmons Beauty rest - I threw out the box, sorry! Anyway, is a "double decker" meaning it is twice as thick as a normal air mattress. This really helps with the loss of air because we are still above the ground (in the "single" layer beds, if it looses air, we touch the ground)
All that said, I don't know what an Aero bed is? Maybe it is what I described as the "double decker"???
It may be too big for your space, but we have the Coleman Double-High Flocked Air Bed. We got it at Target, and it is $62. We love it. I hate other air mattresses that are low. HTH!
We have a bed like this (if not the same one since ours is also a coleman) we use it when we go camping or when we have overnight guests. It isnt the most comfortable for the long haul, but I can handle it for a weekend. The height definitely makes it more desirable than a regular air mattress.
Mine came with a pump so it easily inflates and deflates. Dh blew it up for me alot when I was on bedrest in first tri.... so I could come camp out in the living room for the day
We have a full size raised aero, although it appears they are only selling queen size now. We slept on it every night for a year until we could afford a real bed and it held up great, even with DHs weight (a smidge over ideal).
It is set up in our guest room now, until we can afford a real guest bed. I like the one touch inflate/deflate for guests to adjust the firmness. The built in electric pump is great too.
I would buy it again
