Anyone here do GeoCaching?

My DH wants to start doing this... we hike, get out there on our own frequently, but he figured this might just be *the* coolest thing.  So, have you done it? Is it fun or a big, fat waste of time and energy?

Re: Anyone here do GeoCaching?

  • My H and I do it. It's fun and it's mind boggling to see just how many there are all around you. They are everywhere.
  • DH and I LOVE geocaching!  We haven't been since we moved a couple months ago, but for a while we were going every weekend.  It really got us to explore some different areas of our town, and take some hikes we had never taken.
  • We love doing it as well!  There are so many little treasures out there you'd never find otherwise!

We have also been known to do it while on vacation - which can be fun because then you can take or leave a travel bug that you may find.  Plus then you can see some "off the beaten path" places in a town you are visiting.

I say definitely try it out because it's a lot of fun!

  • we started doing it a few years ago, although not lately w/ the new baby. ?but it is sooo much fun. ?there are tons of them out there (we had no idea how many) and any time you go on vacation you can do it there. ?it's a relatively small start up cost as well, just need to buy the handheld gps (or something similar). ?we can't wait for DS to get a bit older and warmer out so that we can all go.

  • Ok, so what handheld GPS units are you ladies using?  I think he has a really old Garmin that hasn't seen the light of day in years... I know he was frustrated by it because if there's ANY cloud cover, it doesn't work right.  I'm thinking this might be a good Christmas present...

We use our Iphones, there is a really neat geocashing ap that makes everything super easy and convenient. ?

  • It's SO much fun! Being out in nature with your loved ones, hunting for treasure, and being amazed at how many of these things there are - what's not to love?
  • I love GeoCaching. It's fun to be outside, hunt for things and perhaps find something cool. My favorites are the take something leave something caches.
