do monster HDMI cables make a difference?
I hear different things. My bro who's a techie says they don't make a difference. So does DH's friend who's in IT. His sister (who brags about everything) swears they make a difference.
The cables DH bought for the TV are starting to fritz, and it hasn't even been a year yet. He bought them off amazon. Should I suck it up and get the monster cables? What do you use and where did you get them?
Re: do monster HDMI cables make a difference?
Monster Sucks your paying for a brand name and a big marketing company says my hi tec husband.
Go to http://bluejeanscable.com/
He's kinda a big deal and knows what he is talking about!
They sometimes appear to in the store due because of scam-marketing. Read the post below (and the related posts it links to) to get an idea of how true gadget experts feel...

Monster cables are a complete and total rip-off. Sorry, but anyone who thinks they really make a difference is buying into the marketing hype.
While it is true that cables come in varying qualities, you just can't simply declare Monster as "the best."
We buy all our cables from www.monoprice.com.
^^Definitely true^^
Forgot to also mention that HDMI cables transmit digital data which means that it's digital data or 1s and 0s, not analog like components. This results in fewer losses during transmission, requiring less shielding. Also, to make up for any losses faced, HDMI transmits the same signal across multiple wires, with some reversed out, so that they can be compared at the other end of the cable and properly reassembled into working data. You can read more about it here:

I think at this point almost every cable we have is from monoprice and we haven't had a single problem.
And... we now have 4 HDTV's and not a single one is connected via HDMI. Shocker, right? Component works just fine in all our setups - even for all our 1080p outputs. We have a lot of game systems, so they and the cable run through a switchbox, then to a receiver, then to the TV. We tried HDMI directly from the PS3 vs. component and my husband (the same man who can easily tell which tv's have 120hz) and I saw no difference. We already had all the component-capable equipment so we were happy not to bother with purchasing new HDMI equipment.
So, while HDMI is technically better, component can still do the job nicely. As in all cases, YMMV.
Cable is cable, don't pay more for hype!
Also, I can't stress enough Do NOT Buy Cable At Best Buy (any kind), you will overpay.
