Is it spider season?

How do you control spiders from coming into your home?  Is there anything I can buy that can keep them away without having to call Terminix of another company like that?  I have been noticing more and more around.

 TIA for any suggestions :)

Re: Is it spider season?

  • Usually its a nest that has hatched and if you can kill them or move them outside you are usually good :-) I was at an event last weekend and the lady swore by using listerine in a spray bottle around baseboards... but I dunno... you could also try one of those ultra sonic plug in things that repel bugs... all those options are more environmentally and people friendly than pesticides.
  • We have mutant spiders where I live, so we call pest control.

I had a wolf spider waiting in my bed for me once. It got whacked with Clorox bleach spray. Good in a pinch. And it makes things smell extra clean.

  • Our apartment is full of the little buggers lately.  I usually just let the dog play them to death, then pick them up with a paper towel before she can eat them.  (Sophisticated method, I know.)
  • Spiders have been bad at our house too!  My big strong manly husband is DEATHLY afraid of them, so I get the "removal" duty.

Today, while he was mowing the law, DH came running into the kitchen screaming some choice words.  Apparently he saw a huge snake in our backyard- it was about 2.5-3 feet long and an inch and a half in diameter!!!  We live in the suburbs for heavens sake- we aren't supposed to have snakes like this!  Needless to say- he's given up mowing the law barefoot!

  • We use an Ortho barrier treatment once a year that does a great job.  We only spray it outside the house, although you may be able to use it inside too.  This year I waited a little later in the spring hoping that the spiders wouldn't get bad, but the past few weeks I've found a few too many, so my husband sprayed it around the house again this past weekend.
