I'm enrolling in a class online and have a Mac. I guess the course is only for PC. The admissions guy told me to get soft windows and it would solve my problem though I have no idea what Soft Windows is. Can someone please explain?
TIA!

Re: Soft Windows?
I'm assuming he was referring to running Windows via a VM (virtual machine). There are two main options for this on the Mac - Parallels and VMWare Fusion. Both can be purchased online or at your local Best Buy, etc. To put it simply, it lets you run Windows inside a window on the Mac. It's one easy way to run Windows apps on a Mac without having to dual boot.
I use VMWare Fusion, so I can't speak for Parallels. You will need the software and a valid Windows install disc. You install the software and then do a Windows install. You install any software/updates just like you normally would on a PC through the Windows environment. When you want/need to run something in Windows, you just launch the app and it will resume your last Windows session.
It's kind of hard to explain, but I recommend reading up on Parallels and VMWare Fusion to get a better understanding of it.
When they say the course "is only for PC" they may mean the website is only compatible with Internet Explorer. It should say so somewhere on the class website whether or not this is the case.
If the site doesn't say that it requires Internet Explorer, you may be in luck and not have to do anything. I've been to many sites on my Mac where it said Windows only, but it worked perfectly well in Firefox, since Firefox can be installed on both Windows and Mac.
If the site DOES require Internet Explorer (for example, the site doesn't load correctly in Safari or Firefox), then the process to solve it might be a bit more involved. Try the above first and I can explain further if required.
I use Firefox instead of Safari anyway and that's what I was thinking. I guess I'll just have to wait and see!
Thanks ladies!!
If the website comes up in Firefox saying something along the lines of "You don't have Internet Explorer! You can't use this!" then look up an extension for Firefox called "User Agent Switcher." You can use it to fool the website into thinking you have Internet Explorer. Most of the time websites like this will work fine on Firefox, but for some reason use Javascript to block anyone without a specific browser.
