Hi, my name is Shannon. We currently live in MA.
My husband?s facility is closing in July. His company may relo us.
After MANY plan changes they have now settled on Memphis, TN.
The plant is located right in Memphis. I would prefer to live outside of the city.
We currently live on almost an acre in a small cape. We are thinking more of a woodsy type neighborhood. We would like a bigger house.
Right now we have 1 ?real? neighbor on one side, an insurance agency on the other (great b/c they work M-F 9-5 and we never see them) and woods to the back.
Any neighborhood/town suggestions would be greatly welcomed. Even if you feel like mentioning ?stay away from this part of town?. I guess the plant is located in a bad part of town. But, they would probably say the same thing about the plant in RI, too.
Can you suggest any large retailer?s in the area that have their corporate headquarters in the Memphis area? I already applied to AutoZone online.
I?m a sales/use tax accountant w/ a MST. I?m curious about what type of jobs I can find for me.
Thank you in advance!
Re: possibly move to Memphis TN?
I saw on other posts that people were asking about if we have kids and about a budget.
We don't have any kids but we do have 2 dogs & 2 cats. We are hoping to get $325k for our house up here. But we don't have a whole lot of equity, so, we are hoping to spend $160-200 on our new house.
PS I think Fed Ex is based in Memphis.
For more specific questions I would check out this board

Hi Shannon,
Saw your post about moving to Memphis. We lived in Southaven, MS (right across the Memphis, TN/Southaven, MS border right after Katrina up until about a year and a half ago so I'm a bit rusty on the neighborhoods but Crye-Leike is a major realtor in the area so they will be a great start. I liked some areas in Memphis some not so much but if you look in their newspaper www.commercialappeal.com you can start there. Germantown, Collierville, Cordova are nice areas and we LOVED the neighborhood surrounding the Brooks Museum. Lovely neighborhood beautiful homes. Near downtown area. Also some neighborhoods surrounding Christian Brothers College and Rhodes College were nice areas.
Job wise: Harrah's Entertainment as in casino company is HQ in Memphis, TN-specifically Collierville or is it Cordova but go to there website www.harrahs.com and in Careers search for Memphis Corporate Services. They may have some thing.
Of course Fed Ex, it's their hub. www.fedex.com
Hilton Corporation www.hilton.com has a Corporate center in Memphis and I'm pretty sure they have some acct gigs. This is the link to the Memphis Chamber of Commerce http://www.memphischamber.com/default.asp?contentType=static&browsePath=MemphisBusiness it should help some also.
If I think of anything else I'll let you know. I hope this helps Good Luck.
My in-laws have always lived in Memphis, and I can say that Collierville is one of the best places to live. Germantown is also great, but their area is slowly going down and there are some big gripes from the residents there. Collierville is a good drive (say 30+ minutes) into the city, but many will tell you it's worth it. Eads is also a great area. It's the next town over. Both areas are more country-like, especially Eads, though there is a ton of construction being done, so there's no telling what will happen in the next few years. There is a big move toward the East side of town lately, getting further and further away from downtown.
Memphis is great! I love it! Fed-Ex is headquartered here, along with several other companies. There is a ton of great cultural stuff to do, especially involving music obviously. I'd suggest calling the local chamber of commerce (you should be able to find their number online) for more information on the city itself.
Other companies headquartered in Memphis -
St Jude
Autozone
International Paper
FedEx
Thomas & Betts
First Horizon (banking)
Check out some of the colleges too - Univ. of Memphis, Christian Brothers, etc
