Work Vent

First the disclaimer: I realize how lucky I am to have a job right now.  In fact, I may be joining the ranks of the unemployed by years end...but thats another post.

The Story:  On Tuesday there was a miscommunication between a co-worker and myself.  I thought she'd taken care of something she in fact hadn't taken care of.  I thought I was clear in what I was asking.  Apparently not clear enough.  The next day, as a result of thinking things were all set, I pushed forward at a job site.  Things went great...or so I thought.  Found out after the fact (why they didn't red flag it the second the truck showed up rather than after the last one is so far beyond me I can't tell you), that there was a major issue.  Huge.  We're talking licensing issues with the state kinda huge.  It wasn't a case of me trying to cause problems, I actually was trying to be consciencious the in all my actions...but I didn't know the permitting process (co-worker handles that), and didn't know the intricacies and such.  This has cost days worth of downtime at the job.  They are now (understandably) nit-picking everything we send in.  I get that, they have to watch their butts.  The problem is that I'm trying to do right and no matter what I do, fault is being found.  Today for example: I'm at Site 1.  Things are going well.  I find out work is going on at Site 2, which did not have permission to haul, so I ran over there to make sure that wasn't happening.  It wasn't (whew!).  I scoot back to Site 1 and find out that in the mean time 3 trucks had left.  They had what I thought was legit paperwork.  I sent out a 4th truck with paperwork I know was perfect.  Apparently the first trucks, because their paper wasn't perfect (there was something crossed out, something we'd not only done in the past but had been told to do in the past on some occasions), we were shut down for the day.  FML.  I spent 6 hours on what should've been my day off talking my way up the food chain there, calling people on their day off on their cell phones to try and straighten this out.  Got nowhere.  Another day down the toilet.

Its been a shiity week on this particular job.  The thing that started this whole mess...was started solely because I was trying to do the right thing.  I knew Site 1=/=Site 2 and was noting such on the paperwork.  I didn't know co-worker hadn't done things on her end and had no reason to think she wouldn't have (we've worked together for years and she's always really on the ball).  A simple miscommunication, and a lack of communication on the receivers end, has snowballed into something that has my bosses boss involved, has the receivers on the verge of blocking us from ever sending stuff there again (they suspect we're trying to lie to them, we're not), has the people we are subs for considering dropping us and could (please, please no) cost us a national account.  Big Effing Mess.

Been a week of hard lessons.  A little thing turned into a mongo mess, one that I seriously just want to end.  I just want things to be OK and am stressed to the point that I'm literally sick over it.  Trying to put it in perspective, the recent stuff with my cousin in helping in that (no matter how bad it is, its a job...its not life or death)

Re: Work Vent

  • Wow, I'm really sorry junebug. I've had a pretty hard time at work lately too and it's just so frustrating when you feel like you're doing (or at least trying to do) the absolute best job that you can and things keep going wrong. And you keep getting blamed for said things. Hopefully everything will turn around for you soon. You're in my thoughts.

  • Poop!

I think that'd be hard to put up with the nit picking. But, you know it's gonna end at some point... it's just that mistakes have been made and now they're up everyone's butts.

Hope that it lets up sooner rather than later.

  • Thats the thing, I totally understand the nit-picking.  I get it completely.  If they screw up and let stuff in that they shouldn't, the state can shut the facility down.  Its a serious, albeit accidental [in that I a) had no clue the data hadn't gone in and it wasn't a-ok and b) didn't know the ins and outs of their paperwork], error.  I understand that everything we do now is understandably under a microscope.  I just want to make it right and it seems like everything I do, every choice I make...is wrong.  Ugh, this is SOOO not the time to be having to ask my work if I can transfer.  Like thats effing going to happen with this recently on my bosses boss' radar.  Crap-frickin-tacular timing.

And yeah, I can't even tell you how ready I am for this job to be done.  They told us it was a two week job.  I started it right after the HM.  That's one helluva long two weeks.  I'm really looking forward to my 'vacation' of working at another completely unrelated site in early October.

I'm trying to keep it in perspective, but I'm not gonna lie...I have a knot in my gut that I don't think will go away until the first truck is allowed to deliver there (hopefully on Monday).
