Austin Nestie Needs Recs!

Hi from Austin, TX!  Smile

DH and I are starting to plan for our vacation next year and we both agreed that San Diego is the place we want to go!  We would be coming for the first week in May.  I was wondering if you could recommend some nice hotels that would be easy access to the downtown area and not far from the water.  We want to see a baseball game at Petco and also check out the zoo.  Any other ideas on fun stuff to do would be great!  TIA ladies!

Re: Austin Nestie Needs Recs!

  • Mission Valley has an area called Hotel Circle, with a bunch of hotels. ?Mission Valley is a 10 min drive from downtown and the zoo, a little farther from the beach.

Plan on renting a car. ?Our public transportation system is not very good if you are outside the city area.

?You could also stay somewhere on Mission Bay, closer to the water and Sea World.?

The hotels in the city are great, but I'm sure they are more expensive. ??

  • Hotel Solamar is a great spot near Petco and is a very nice hotel. You may want to check out Coronado as well--the Hotel Del Coronado is pricey but there are a few other hotels in that area (maybe a Marriott?). You can take the ferry to downtown but Coronado itself is a great vacation spot.

  • There are TONS of hotels in downtown within walking distance to Petco Park, the waterfront, Seaport Village, Little Italy with trolley access to Old Town and few miles (even a long walk if you wanted) to the zoo and Balboa Park. Ferry ride will take you to Coronado for shops, restaurants, etc.

Westin Horton Plaza, US Grant (stayed here last month and loved it, but $$$), Manchester Grand Hyatt, Marriott, Omni Hotel (right next to Petco Park), etc.....you can find a huge list at the Visitors Bureau website. It's probably easier if you check a few out and then ask what we think of them, as there are hundreds we could list and we don't know your price point. There are many smaller boutique hotels too.
