Miami at No. 9?!
What's your surprise for the week? And what's your opinion on the polls before teams even jump into their conference games? I'm glad the BCS won't be out until we're really into football season, but I'm not a big fan of the other polls. If a team falls [like OSU or even OU], it's SO hard to get back up top...I think.
Your take?

Re: New AP Poll is out...
I'll believe "the U" is back when they beat a legitimate top 25 team (i.e., VA Tech, Oklahoma). That said, they looked quite dominant against GA Tech. Jacori (sp?) Harris had 10 min to throw the dang ball every time.
Oh, and SEC play has already started, at least. Also, I don't see why we wouldn't start the polls right away, even before conference games begin. The thing that distinguishes college football from every other sport is how each week can change the entire season. That's a big part of the reason I am anti-playoffs in college football.
Miami wasn't ranked #9 last week...they jumped to #9 after they beat the Ramblin' Wreck.
I think Texas should have leapfrogged Florida. They've played Charleston Southern and Troy and then only beat Tennessee by 10.
I'd say that Tech is a better team than Tennessee.
I am glad to see Alabama at #3.
"It's a child, not a cheeto" Thanks mmariluh!
"Ew. I've read all of two posts from you, and you stink like rotting garbage."
And you base that on...?
Both teams are highly talented (based on their play to date), and both teams beat unranked opponents by 10 at home on Sat. Texas would have only 'leapfrogged' Florida if Florida had lost.
Its all based on points. The better the opponent you lose to the higher ranked you will stay. If you get beat by the number 1 team... you may not fall at all. Afterall that team is #1
If someone that beats you loses, you will fall. USC lost to an unranked team.... it knocked them down to 11. Ohio State won this weekend but still dropped to 13 because they were beaten my USC last week.
Thank goodness Im a Penn State fan!
Woohoo!! I'm hoping they look sharp next week against Iowa!
Alabama played North Texas, VT and FIU...and only beat VT by 10...so if Texas should leapfrog Florida, Alabama shouldn't be ranked at #3 based on what you said...
TI, IUIs, IVF = c/ps and BFNs
HUH????
Um, I'm not really sure what you don't get...Alabama played Virginia Tech the first week, beat them 34-24...then played Florida International the second week and then North Texas this week..she's saying Florida played easy games (except for TN, and they only won that game by 10) but Alabama has played easy games, the only decent team they played was VT and they only beat them by 10...pretty simple...
TI, IUIs, IVF = c/ps and BFNs
Me too! They've had an easy 3 weeks. I hope they can keep up the good work once the schedule gets formidable
Yeah now is when I start getting more nervous when watching the games. Of course I have a workshop out of state for work on Saturday so I'll probably miss the whole thing
I about fell over when I saw my Canes were ranked No. 9 yesterday. As much as I love it, I was a little surprised.
Granted, both of Miami's wins have been against ranked opponents, but I figured they'd move into the top 15...not the top 10.
Then again, I think they've been helped by the fact that both of their games have been on prime-time. You can easily impress poll voters when you're the only game on Labor Day night and the only game on a Thursday. There's nothing else to watch.
But hey, I'll take it. Three weeks ago, there was plenty of talk that Miami would start the season 0-4 and Randy Shannon would be on the hot seat. Uh, THAT's quieted down. And me, I said I'd be happy to be 2-2 to start the season. If that happens NOW, I'll be annoyed
All I know is that the universe seems right again...Miami, FSU and UF are back in the top 20 for the first time in forever
Oh, and as much as I despise the Gators, even with a weak showing against Tennessee, you don't drop the No. 1 team, the defending national champions, until they lose. Just my opinion.
I agree.
No offense to you OSU fans, but I think it's complete b.s. that you guys got beat by Houston (who was unranked) and we got beat by VaTech (who was ranked) and we fell further.
The logic astounds me!
And yes, I'm still bitter from Saturday.
But the Hitler reacts to Nebraska's loss at VaTech video on YouTube did soften the blow!
I'm surprised that we didn't fall farther... BUT Houston rocks. They're a good team. I wouldn't be surprised to see Houston in the top 10 by the end of the season. Especially if they keep playing like they have been!
I'm pretty sure TT is going to have their way with Houston.
Wouldn't surprise me. We'll see!
