What temp is your thermostat?

DH and I keep the thermostat at 78 when at home during the summer.  To us it is conservative, I think ideally we'd have it at 76 but to keep our bills lower we decided on 78.  78 is tolerable and comfortable with fans going.

This was the topic at work yesterday.  Everyone else kept theirs around 80-85 degrees!! I was in shock, I thought DH & I were conservative. My co-workers were shocked at how "frivolous" we were with our electricity!! It cracked me up...so now I'm curious...what temp is your thermostat during the summer months?

Re: What temp is your thermostat?

  • It's programmed for the following:

    M-F

    6 am - 4 pm = 85
    4 pm - 10 pm = 82
    10 pm - 6 am = 80

    Sat - Sun

    6 am - 10 pm = 82
    10 pm - 6 am = 80

Sometimes we turn it down a little, but never below 78.  We used to keep it lower, but we tried higher temps this summer, and our bill has been averaging about $50 less per month, so we think it's worth the few degrees.  We use ceiling fans and standing fans as well.

  • We are at 79/80 every day... Sometimes if we are baking on the weekend, we'll drop it to 78 but no lower....  Im getting used to it. I dont know if I could do 83 or 84 being home all day! If we were all gone all day, i'd probably keep it at 81/82 during work hours and 79 when we got home..

  • Ours never goes below 80 but we are in a 1 bedroom apt. When we are home, it's usually between 82-85. When we are gone, it's close to 90. When we are sleeping, it's about 81.
  • 78 during the day/76 at night. I have no idea how you ladies sleep with it so warm!!!

Yah, I'm with you sister!  We keep ours at 78 during the day, 80 when we're away and we sleep with it at 76.  DH would like it cooler even, but we try to stick with this. :)

  • Ours is at 80 all day. If we're going to be gone all day, coming home after dark, we'll turn it up to 85. Although we have the thermostat set to 80, it's usually 76 degrees downstairs. My husband is always cold when he gets home from work.?
  • We have a two-story house and the temps vary. When I work at home, the upstairs is at 78-80. At night, the upstairs gets turned down to 72. We haven't installed our ceiling fans yet so I'm sure that will help. To be honest, I don't look at the downstairs much. Yesterday DH had it set at 80 for most of the day. We aren't downstairs as much right now.

  • We have it set at 78 all day.  I sometimes change it to 77 at times during the day if I get hot.  When I was working, we programmed it to be at 80 during the day until about 3.  I couldn't handle it at 80 when we're home unless we REALLY needed that money.  I get both hot and cold so easy.  I swear I have like zero temperature range.  =)
  • We keep it at 82 when we aren't home and 76 the rest of the day.  Sometimes I will even put the upstairs to 75, it gets pretty hot up there!
  • It's at 80 sometimes it may go lower to 77/78 but thats only if its really hot or if I cant sleep.

And never again will I ask DH to turn the air down again, he put it on 75 last night and it was soo cold in our 1 bdrm apartment.

  • 78 when we're home. 83 when we're not. Sometimes we'll put it down to 76 when we just get done with a run and are burning up.

lol, I read this as 'bumping it' like we you two are...

    That too Wink

  •  When we're home we turn it to 80/81.  When we sleep we turn it to 78/79.

However from 9:15am (or if I remember to change it before I leave for work) to 6:15pm it's set at 85, then goes to 83, unless we're home and manually change it.
