searching for camera

I just discovered this board! I posted on my local, parenting, and travel boards with few answers.  But here is where I need to be.

I am an idiot with cameras. I need something easy to use.  I would like it to take pics quickly, and obviously great pics.  I would love to stay with a small camera, but want speed too!  Spending no more than $500 would be ideal, but I am willing to spend a little more.

Background...I have a canon powershot SD 870is that is not quite 2 yrs old.  I love it, but has now decided it doesn't like me anymore.  It has been repaired twice and it is just dead!  I also had the Nikon Coolpix 5400 from a few years ago that is way too slow and difficult to use.

Please help... TIA

Re: searching for camera

  • If you liked your Canon have you thought about getting one of the new models? Just about all Canon point and shoots have the same menu layout so if you're comfortable with the one you had it would be quick and easy to transition into the new camera.

  • I have a Fuji S1500. I really like it. I wanted a better camera to take good pics of my girls, but I didn't want anything too complicated. After several reccomendations from friends, this is the one I ended up with. I love it.

    Damn Pictures, Images and Photos
I've got more issues than a magazine
  • I was going to suggest a newer version of the very camera that gave you so much trouble, but I guess that's probably not something that would interest you.

Sorry you've had such bad experiences with the Canon SD series.  I love them so much!

  • I love the camera too...until it started hating me!  I am going back to the camera repair shop tomorrow.  Maybe he will have some suggestions.
  • Don't bother with your old camera anymore.  It is clearly a lemon.  Get a new one!
  • Sad to hear Canon made a bad egg.  I have the Canon PowerShot SD870 IS and love it!  Canon and Nikon are the best.  You could always find someone who receives consumer reports...

  • I was going to recommend the Cannon G10, but I see you're considering it already.  GO FOR IT!  I LOVE ours.
  • The Canon Elphs are good cameras.
