80th bday present ideas...

My grandma is turning 80 on Oct 5th and DH and i are going to DE to visit her the weekend before her Monday bday (even my mom is flying in from NM!!). My grandma is one of those people that doesn't want for anything and when i do spend money on her (flowers for bdays/holidays) she tells me not to spend my money on stuff like that. But 80 is a big deal!!

Any ideas? Oh, she's also legally blind from her diabetes but she can see some stuff, like in her periphery. So anything visual might be out...and she uses a walker to walk or a wheelchair since she's had both hips replaced.

TIA!

Re: 80th bday present ideas...

  • does she have a favorite restaurant that you could take her to that weekend or get a gift card to?

my grandmother is 84 and since she doesn't really need anything, i've had good luck with gift cards or taking her out.?

  • That's a tough one! Does she like to dress up? You could get her a hat, a bag or some jewelry...Ok I am not very good at this! DH's grandma liked those types of things.

But I think just seeing you is going to make her very happy...

  • could you put something together like a snuggly blanket, some teas and an audiobook or two (since I'm assuming she doesn't read with her vision)

  • Great ideas ladies! Big Smile

Cheeky - unfortunately, having both hips replaced has basically made my grandma afraid of leaving her apartment, except for doctors appts. And being as visually impaired as she is, she has a hard time reading menus and gets very frustrated.

Nova - i was actually just thinking i might try to bust out a crocheted lap blanket! Assuming i can find a good pattern, thick yarn and a big needle so it can work up fast in the next 2 weeks! But the tea is a fantastic idea as well! I'll have to check with my aunt (who takes care of her) and see if my grandma is a tea drinker...

  • I think i like this blanket, but make it in colors that match her sofa, where she sits and listens to her audiobooks; rose, sage and ivory. Big Smile

  • what about ordering or cooking a special dinner while you are there??

the blanket and audiobooks are great ideas too! my mom & uncle love audiobooks because they both have severe astigmatism so reading for long periods of time is uncomfortable for them. ?
