BFing moms, I have a question

So Austin has started this thing where sometimes I can't get a full feeding out of him...for example, I'll feed him in the morning for "breakfast" get a full feeding, he'll go down for a nap and an hour later seem like he wants to eat again and just kind of "snack" and pull on and off the breast and never totally pull off and seem "full" or "satisfied".

He usually pulls off when he has had a full feeding, pump his fist and arch his back and practically be asleep...he's done that since he was born...(it's so cute!)

Anyways, maybe he's just using me to pacify himself...but I just wonder if maybe I shouldn't be offering him the breast when he has these "snack" feedings or if I should or wondering if anyone else's DC did this...

Re: BFing moms, I have a question

  • Have you tried to introduce a binky when he is like this??  If he is just using you to as a comfort thing, than I would think a binky would satisfy him and if he was really hungry he'd just spit the binky out and actually want to eat.  I didn't BF for long... so I'm probably not your best source for this kind of information!  GL !

Mason has been doing something similar...makes me wonder what is going on...

  • Jordan started doing that right around Austin's age...I don't know if you remember, but Nina at group said often times as they get a little older they just get distracted with outside things, whether it's you or the window your sitting next to, or something on the wall...it makes them pop on and off, even if they are really hungry. It doesn't really explain the whole "snacking" thing I guess, which I've heard is bad, but I let Jordan do it and he hasn't turned out any worse for the ware...
  • I've found that when Kailyn does this she has a burp that needs to come up.   Although she does go through her snacking phases, which are typically at the times of growth spurts.
