Hello ladies! I'm a Phx nestie and my DH is considering a job in Vegas. I'm looking on some info on where to buy a home? I know your real estate market is much like ours--full of foreclosures and the like. His new job would be in SW Vegas. We know Henderson is a nice area, but would like someplace in the SW area. TIA!
Re: Thinking of moving...
We live in Moutains Edge- its the new SW- we love it. Its still up and coming, but there is going to be a lot out there when its all done. There are tons of forclosures in that area as well.
I live in Mountain's Edge, too. Check there (89178, 89179). Also check Rhodes Ranch (89148), Southern Highlands (89141) and Nevada Trails (89113 I think). These neighborhoods are in the southwest.
Let me know if you have any other questions. I looked at all of these neighborhoods when we moved, so I'm very familiar with them.
My husband and I just used Alessandro Chiochetti last year. He was very helpful and after our first outing only showed us properties he knew we'd be interested in/could afford.
I think as far as schools go, it depends on the area you live in, just like Phoenix. My husband and I were both born and raised there and there are schools that I would definitely not want my children going to there, but there are also good schools. I think the low ratings here have a lot to do with cuts in funding and (before the fall of the economy) a lot of the high school students I have spoken to feel they don't need to graduate. The kids thought they could just go to bartending/dealer school and make a good living.
My friend just bought with a fantastic realtor. I'll PM you her info.
As far as schools, you are right, we aren't ranked the highest in education. I never thought I would say this, but I'm considering private school when I have kids.
My husband and I just moved to the area too. We are in the NW so cannot help much with SW areas, but i want to give you our realtor's name. She was very helpful. We were doing the house hunt from TX only visiting a couple times during the process and she was very accommodating. Her name is Hobie, here is a link to her site http://www.hobiesellsvegas.com.
Good luck to you and your family!!
Hi there! I live in Southern Highlands. It is a planned community in the SW. A bit closer to town than Mountain's Edge but in the same vicinity. We have a private Prep School where my kids will hopefully go to school. Unfortunately the public schools here are all in the same county and aren't that great.
Good luck!!
