To Disney, or not to Disney?

As I have commented, I've gone on a fair share of trips this year (monthly since May, and one to come in Octoboer).  BIL/SIL and a group are going to Disney this weekend.  My inlaws were suppose to go, but have now cancelled.  They want us to go in their place, to not lose the money.  Friday night is the Mickey's Not so Scary Halloween Event that they all got tickets to... if we don't go, the money is lost.  Hotel is paid for, as are the tickets.

Now, DH and I went 2 yrs ago.  We had a good time b/c it was a HUGE group.  We rode all the rides w/ NO lines... and we got to spend some times w/ the little ones of the family.

However, we have a lot going on in our lives, including LOTS of doctor appts which I miss work for.  I would hate to take a 1/2 day on Friday to go to on a Disney trip I don't necessarily care for!  The event is from 8pm to midnight (but more close to 1am).  So the absolute latest we can leave is 4pm to arrive between 8-9pm.

What do you guys think?  Thanks for your opinions!

Re: To Disney, or not to Disney?

  • personally, i LOVE disney... so i always jump on any chance to go... but that's me. :)
  • tickets paid... hotel paid...  hmmm  DH and I can pretend to be "Jackie and "Frog Hunter"  no one will ever know the difference  ;)

    hehehe

  • I know, it is tempting.

I also forgot that Friday is my sister's 21st bday, and she's celebrating.  She invited us to join us.  And even though we will stand out like "sore thumbs" I feel obligeted to at join them for dinner an a drink.

And, I take a lot of time off from work b/c of doctor's appts (ie just yesterday had to leave a 2pm, and never returned)... and there are many of those occurances, unfortunately.

  • I would take the 1/2 day and go off to have some fun!!!!  Enjoy some "FREE" time with the hubby!
When life hands you a bunch of lemons, make lemonade-call me over and I'll bring the tequila and salt!
  • Jackie- if I were you I would definitely take it.  There is always some xtra R&R that is needed.
  • Turns out it isn't "free" after all.  FIL hasn't paid BIL for the trip yet... so I'd feel horrible telling FIL "hey, pay and I'll go!"  If ti were already paid for then that's a diff story.  So I think we are trying to wiggle our way out of this one.  We have too many expenses coming up to be spending some unnecessary moeny.

Besides, DH and I get our R&R just relaxing at home, as oppose to the hectic crowds at Disney, and all the children running around.  LOL

  • Don't go. First, you don't want to and in reality you won't enjoy yourself if you really don't want to be there. Second, you have to take off of work and you have alot going on with the drs. Third, the $$ issue. Tell them that you just cant afford it. GL!
  • I feel you.  I miss work all the time for health reasons and besides my honeymoon, I really really try not take off days for vacations (unless I have to for a friends wedding or something like that).

I wouldn't go if I were you.  You aren't too into Disney (neither am I), now it's not free, plus you have been missing work frequently and it's also your sister's birthday. Just doesn't seem like a great idea.

    Just my thoughts :)

  • Knowing some what of what you're going through with the Dr.'s I'd say if it was paid for go. Just because getting away just for a little is always good.

Since you'd have to pay OOP to go I'd say stay home cause have that $ to pay OOP for other stuff is way more important! :)

  • Thanks to everyone for their input.  Looks like we aren't going.  Luckily, the hotel was able to be cancelled.  The only money out of pocket (for FIL since he's not going) is $120... and BIL is going to attempt to sell the tickets.

We went 2 yrs ago for the same event, and we did have a great time.  If it weren't for all the trips we've already taken, and all the upcoming time off I'll be requiring, we'd be in the car Friday mid-afternoon to visit Mickey!  =)

  • well, i love disney, but are you willing to deal with the bs from your job?  i read your blog and saw what your stupid bosses did about your last half day!!  is it worth it?  also, would you be missing your important drs appts?  if so, maybe take a raincheck on this trip.  can your ILs find another cuople to take the tix?  i don't know, i'm torn!  i LOVE disney, but i'm not sure if it would be worth missing 1/2 day at work AND your drs!
