Push no longer working on iPhone ?

I'm sure I'll have to call customer service but thought I'd ask if anyone else has encountered this. I've had my iPhone 3G less than two weeks & push was working fine...until a few days ago. Now it doesn't work on mail or any of the programs that use it. Once I click on mail or whatever program, then it loads & recognizes new messages, but they no longer push & give me advance notification. Any ideas?

Re: Push no longer working on iPhone ?

  • I've rebooted 2x today & checked the basic settings (I'm no tech whiz, that's why I have DH, lol) but no dice yet. I just tried deleting all settings & it restarted itself so [fingers crossed] it works!

are you using gmail or y!mail or going through microsoft exchange?

did you recently upgrade to 3.1?

Yes, I upgraded to 3.1 immediately after activating my new phone on 9/12/09.

As for the email q, I went to the Mail button & set up my Yahoo mail to push. It worked for the first week but quit working in the past few days. Before realizing that push quit working on Facebook app (& others) too, I figured it was a Yahoo push issue, deleted the Yahoo email account on the phone & added a Gmail account.

I just restored to factory settings via iTunes so hopefully that'll do the trick? We shall see.

  • Gmail only started using push yesterday - and only if it is setup as described in the link. (Side note - it eats battery like mad, so I went back.)

Good to know, thanks! I guess I'll call cust svc eventually...or just live without instant notification of msgs...like I did before I got my iPhone.

  • Here's one thing to try that I saw posted somewhere:

    Disable PUSH in settings.
    RESTART!!! Mandatory!
    Enable PUSH back.
    RESTART AGAIN!!!

(poster's caps and emphasis, not mine :) )

If that doesn't work, I'd try looking through or posting at forum.theiphoneblog.com and the apple support forums.

  • Haha, awesome. I'll try it right now before work gets crazy. Thx!

  • interesting.. i noticed the same thing a couple days ago (i also recently got the thing so i thought it was user error on some level). i am trying the suggestion above to see if htat helps.
  • Work got crazy so I never followed up with my q - is there one main setting for push in general settings that I'm just not finding OR is there a push setting for each item that allows push? I see where you can turn push on/off for email but didn't find it elsewhere. Embarrassed
