Pump moms HELP!

I tried to post this on 0-6 figuring I'd get more responses but every time I hit the create post button, it brings me to BOTB instead!  Stupid Nest!

Anyway, I am back at work and pumping for missed feedings at home.  I'm only averaging 2-3.5 ounces per session (both sides) which I know is not adequate for her and I am not feeling let down when I pump.  When I breastfeed I feel a distinct shooting sensation in the opposite breast from which she is eating.  Is there anything I can do to improve this? I have the PISA but I'm not double pumping (I think it would be too awkward, but would be willing to try) and I wear LilyPadz so the milk isn't leaking out the other side.  Would it help to double pump?

As it is, I am pumping every 2-3 hours and I really can't fit anymore sessions in to my work schedule.  I am drinking water like it is my job and I try to focus strictly on pumping when I pump (not doing other work in the background) and I look at pics of Charlotte.  And I'm eating oatmeal in the morning (this just started though).  I know I am getting enough calories and protein.  I really want to EBF til at least 6 months but preferably a year.  I don't think I can keep up with her at this rate.  Any advice would be helpful!  Thanks!

Sarah

Re: Pump moms HELP!

  • I would double pump.  You'll get used to it in no time!  I can now surf the net while dounle pumping...it just takes a little practice!

When I wasn't pumping as much as I needed, I'd sneak in an extra pumping session before bed.  It sucked, but it did the trick!

I also drank a beer (or 2) on many days :)

    Good luck!

  • I'm from the Maine board, but thought I would pop in.  I would get the easy expressions handfree bustier that way you can pump both sides at the same time.  Look it up on ebay, that's where I found it for the cheapest with less expensive shipping.  It was about $32 total.  It's a stretchy tube top-like thing that has holes to put the pump horns in.  Have you talked with an LC about it, sometimes they have hints to help you get more out during a session.

    Here it is:

  •  oh sarah, i totally feel for you,  i def suggest double pumping, i just cut slits into my nursing tank and i can now double pump easy.  oatmeal is good, have you tried fenugreek?

also keep pumping 5 min after last drops to tell body you need more milk!

have you tried fenugreek/blessed thistle or mother;s milk tea?  i found the tea and fenugreek to bump supply a bit

what about you breast shields, do they fit well, the standard ones don't fit 1/2 of all women, my left side likes the soft fit ones, righty is a 27mm. go figure!

also i heard too much water can be bad, just drink to your thirst.

try all these things then you could research domperidone, good luck, my heart goes out tu you, i struggled w/ pumping too!!
