Nikon DSLR D40?

Anyone have one?  Good, bad?  Any reviews would be appreciated!

Re: Nikon DSLR D40?

  • I have a D5000, but a lot of my friends have D40s and really like them
  • I have a D40 and love it.

If I were to buy a camera today, however, I would probably get the D5000.

  • I have a D40 and love it. It is a good intro camera to Nikon I think. My DH uses it more than I do and I'm thinking of upgrading his camera and keeping the D40 to myself.
  • I don't have one but have heard good things.  Target has it on sale right now for $420.
  • slickdeals.net usually has them posted for a pretty fair price to you just have to keep an eye out for one.
  • Thanks everyone!  I live next door to Target, so I'm going to go check that out!

  • I had one but ended up upgrading to a D90 a few months after I purchased it and gave my mom the D40.  The D40 is an amazing camera for most people and a nice upgrade from a P&S, but if you're looking to have a nice cropping ability or would like to make enlargements, I'd go for something like the D90.

The D90 is great for me, because I do photography on the side for extra money.  I also use it for wildlife photography and action photography so the extra megapixels allow for more cropping and enlargements, and the extra focus points help me as well.

If you're new to photography, I'd say the D40 would be a good place to start.  I was fairly experienced when I got the D40 so I just found it didn't meet my needs as well as the D90 or other cameras.
