I LOL'ed at your last 'Tuesday' point.  I really need to do this... it's been on my to-do list for about three years now.  I always wonder if the price is worth it, but I take it from your passionate post that it is!

Re: [leapgirl]

  • SO worth it!!! And for what it's worth, I got my current favorite bra off the Nordstrom's sale rack for less than I was paying before, for my special bras I thought I needed b/c I was wearing the wrong size. They have a great sale rack. Heh. I said rack.

I am grateful to the woman in London who helped me, b/c I said "Can you look in the back and see if you have any bras in X size for me?" and she said "No, I won't, because you are not that size." I was a bit put off at the time but - yay for that lady! Also, she guessed my correct size just from looking at me.

I found a great woman at the Nordstrom's nearest me who gave me her card and keeps a record of my previous purchases in the computer so I can just come in at any time and she can look up and see what I bought, returned, etc. before and make recommendations based on that. Or I can say "remember that strapless bra I bought, do you have that in black?" and she just looks it up for me.

My sister called Macy's a few days ago in her college town and asked if they had any bras in her size, and the woman on the phone laughed at her! That's just BS. We shouldn't have to put up with that.

    That is unbelievable!

I don't have a Nordstrom here, but we have a specialty bra place that sizes... thats why I'm thinking it's going to be expensive.  Maybe next time I'm in a larger city I'll get my boobs measured! :-D

  • Butting in...

I also just did this at Nordstroms. I was wearing the same bras I was wearing before I had the kids (and mind you, they have grown, grown some more, shrunk, and then grew again.)  Needless to say my bras were uber uncomfortable.  When I got measured I was sure she did it wrong since my bras felt so tight - well, once it got a bit more stretched out and I got used to how it should feel (I was wearing a band width that was too big) it feels and looks so much better.

I was concerned about the cost too - but like Leapgirl, mine came off the sale rack at Nordies.  If it hadn't, my plan was to get measured and buy one and then find another online cheaper.  I would reccomend getting measured at the high end place, find out what fits and then trying to locate it online.

Good luck!  It really is an excersise in humility to get measured, but oh so worth it. :)

  • also butting in...

when you get measured is it completely naked from the waist up? bra on? shirt on?

  • She measured me with my bra on, went to find what she was looking for, and came back and stayed in the dressing room while I tried them on. Nothing like exposing belly fat and stretch marks to a complete stranger. Embarrassed But I figured that I'd never see her again.

  • I was measured w/ bra on and then she left the room and had me try one on to make sure it was the right size, and then left the room and left me with a pile to try on to find the ones I liked. I agree that they feel tight and weird at first, but you get used to it quickly.
