Oh my goodness, it's a big party when you can barely see the table for all the serving pieces laid out lol The table is actually two folding tables pushed together since my table wouldn't be near big enough for this. All the serving pieces are out with post-its on them so I could make sure I had a piece and utensil for every dish. Most of the pieces are mine, but I did borrow a few from MIL. There are some that I'm using that aren't shown in the pic either. Craziness!
We've actually had a couple people tell us that since this is adults only, they're going to go all out on the adult bit and are getting a hotel room nearby to stay the night. Oh my gosh! If I'm these people's date night entertainment, I'd better make it worth it! Eek!

Gorgeous. I love the colors. Perfect for early autumn.
Oh, my tablecloth's not on there yet
That's a king size bedsheet I'm using as a sound buffer to muffle the "you're setting dishes on plastic folding tables" sound lol I'll put the tablecloth on next week.

Thinking of doing cosmetic updates to a dated home? These were our costs.
It is a buffet. The serving dishes are just laid on the table, not in their correct spots or anything.
I've been trying to think how to and/or if I need to add height. The compote in the center will hold a tall arrangement that will go up almost to the chandelier - that's my primary height. I think those boxes under tablecloths look so contrived... I only have two cake stands and they're occupied on the dessert table. I'll play with the tablescape more once I get the flowers done next Tues or Wed.

If you want to add height without using boxes... glass blocks or red brick would look nice (if you or someone else happens to have/need them around). I worked in catering/special events for over 15 years before having babies and used to do event and buffet layout and design professionally. You can contact me with any other questions you may have.
Please send us a photo of the completed buffet. I love this type of thing.
Yeah - I was one of those people who thought that you were posting your own pictures when you were asking what made the difference between amature vs professional tablescapes.
Every time I see your name, I think about the plaid table cloth picture - it would really help me to see what your "real" decoration style is. :-)
