Questions about Northeast Dallas...

DH is going to negotiate a job offer deal with the Cardiology practice up in Rockwall/Rowlett.  If everything goes well w/ negotiations, we'll be moving up there next summer.  We'll be looking to rent a house so that we can take our time to build or buy a house....

Anyway, there are some small towns in that area that I don't know much about.  Someone said that Wiley (I think) had a MOPS group. I'm looking for family-oriented areas.  What do you know??

Re: Questions about Northeast Dallas...

  • I know very little about that area... I just had to butt in to say two things:

    1) your baby is freaking adorable!!!

    2) I notice the guns in your picture... WRECK EM!

  • I grew up in Rowlett and loved it. My Mom helped start a MOPS group at Firewheel Bible Fellowship(on the border of Rowlett/Garland), although, that was several years ago, so I'm not sure if the program is still around. I know several churches offer it, so I'm sure there's another group around if FBF doesn't offer it anymore. Rowlett's community center has alot to offer as far as childrens' sports, dance, activities, etc. It really just depends on how involved you want to be.

  • I don't know much about the smaller towns, but Rockwall is a great place to live and it's also very affordable. Plenty of big, beautiful new construction homes for under $200K, as well as more established areas right on the water.

A friend that's trying to convince us to move there sent me this article

  • Hi Kate,

Wow good news for DH!  I've been keeping up with all your posts on FB. You seem so happy with the new baby.

I'm sure you will be able to find a MOPS group in any place you live. Plus the Bump girls have get togethers with babies sometimes too. Both Rockwall and Rowlett are growing areas really fast. There is lots of space to build houses and the school system is way better than any Dallas School. I haven't been out there much, but i know that both are very family oriented. Living by DH's work is important b/c traffic in D/FW can be a nighmare.  In Dallas they have a sorority Alum chapter that is pretty active. (I hear). If you want to come visist the areas, let me know, you're welcome to stay with us in East Dallas.

  • Hi Kate! I don't know anything about NE Dallas, just wanted to say HI!!!!!!!!! :)

  • I live in Wylie and I love it.  I don't have kids, so I dont' know a whole lot about family activities except for they do often have things going on on the "square" in older downtown Wylie, we get notices of different things like in our water bills.  I hear the schools are great, some friends of ours are moving from Rockwall to Wylie for that reason.  I love it because it definitely still has the small town feel and there are nice developments going up.  We are five minutes from Lake Lavon and fifteen from Lake Ray Hubbard.  That is what is really important to us :o)

Since I have lived there we have gotten more fast food joints, but there aren't a lot of sit down chain restaurants, etc. But, Rockwall isn't a far drive at all and it is a great area with lots to do and lots of restaurants, etc.

     Hope that helps some :o)

  • Rockwall has great schools and great family feel. Homes are also affordable (under $250k for a nice new home)... my website has information on Rockwall and the schools under buyer information (www.meaganlewis.com)

I also know there is a good MOPS program in my church in Forney (www.clifec.com)

There are a lot of us up here. Perhaps we need to plan a reunion of some sort. LOL! Lindsay S. had a housewarming party back in May and I saw quite a few girls then.
