Thinking of moving to Ill.

Hello,

My husband and I are looking into moving to Illinois, namely Peoria. I am a teacher, well just graduated hoping to be a teacher lol. Anyway, I was wondering what the state minimum salary for teachers is. Thank you!

Re: Thinking of moving to Ill.

  • I went to college in Central Illinois, near Peoria.  It's a pretty crummy town- I'm not sure if you know much about it.  The schools there are not very good, and since the cost of living in Central IL is lower, the teacher pay there is lower. I was a teacher for years, and so were most of my college friends.  Several of them were placed in Peoria schools for their student teaching, and all of them were offered full time positions there following student teaching.  They all turned the jobs down after considering the lifestyle in Peoria, the quality of the schools, and the payscale.  Sorry I can't give you better news.
  • You can go to mychampion.org and see what IL get paid at each district.  It is normal a year or two behind but that will give you a much better idea.  There is no minimum pay for school disctrict to each is own.  One district can start at $24,000 then another can start you at $36,000.  My first year was $26,000 and my friend who graduated the same calss as me got another job in another district same experince and years and she started at $35,000.  So you never know.  I don't have a clue about Perioa, but check the website and go to the Illinois State Board of Education for job openings.  HTH.
  • If you're looking for a GREAT relocation realtor, just let me know!

We've beeing using an amazing woman through Coldwell Banker, and I'd recommend her to anyone who's transferring in from out of state!
