Anyone starting Christmas shopping yet?

I have been finding some great deals, so I've started picking things up and putting them away til then.  I also thought it would be nice to spread the expense over a few months vs. 1 month.

Re: Anyone starting Christmas shopping yet?

  • Wow...someone is thinking ahead!  I'm not even close to thinking about Christmas gifts yet!
  • In directly :)  I found a Matrix set with the 3 videos, the cartroon and like 40 hours of bonus footage on Amazon a while back and it was only $50.00 for all of them and they are blu ray!  Brett will be so stoked!

  • I indirectly started as well when I found these Colts pullovers at Sam's for less than half of what they are at Finish Line.  I picked one up for my sister's bf and my FIL.  Then I found a great deal on a watch and a vanilla lotion/bodywash/capstick/bubble bath set I know my MIL would love.

Since I picked those up I went ahead and started making a list and checking things off so I don't over buy forgetting what I have.

I also prefer to stay clear of the mall between thanksgiving and mid January.

  • Heh, I usually don't even start until early- to mid-December...  I have started jotting down ideas, though.  I try to listen to family/friend comments on things they need/want.
  • Yes, we've started. We usually try and get it done as early as possible, but it doesn't always work out that way. We still find ourselves braving the mall come  the end of November, especially with two kid's birthdays at the beginning of December!

  • I started mid-August.  I know it is early, but I had an idea of what to get my in-laws (we do gifts for each family) so I started picking up the little things we are going to put in a basket for them.  Every year we pick a theme and go with it, last year was "cuddling by the fire" and included mugs with coffee/tea/hot chocolate/cider, cinnamon sticks, a fuzzy blanket, and a digital christmas ornament.  This year, it is "family night" and will have popcorn, popcorn toppers, a GC to blockbuster, and a board game...  Maybe a few other small things that strike me.  It makes it SO much easier to pick up a bit at a time!

  • For the first year ever, I've started thinking about Christmas before November so that's a startSmile  I hope to start getting a few things here and there, and I've started thinking about what to get people.  I think it will be easier on our budget if I do a little at a time instead of all at once.  I really hope I'm done shopping by Thanksgiving, we'll see how it goes!
  • My family doesn't do gifts since there aren't any kids in the picture and with his family, we are drawing names this year.

The kids in my family still buy presents for my parents (since they still do Santa) and I have thought about that.

We haven't drawn names for H's family yet, so we can't really start yet.

  • The only thing I've started thinking about is that we're going to "cut out" DH's extended family this year.  There is just no reason for us to be buying gifts for all of these cousins, step cousins, aunts, uncles, and step-in-law-whatevers.  Just his immediate (parents, step parents, siblings, step siblings, nieces, nephews) family is 19 people.  By contrast, in my family, we have 3 gifts to buy.

Perfect scenario is that we'll buy small gifts for his parents/step-parents, and we'll buy gifts for the children.  Adult siblings and nieces/nephews (yes 2 of his nieces are our age, his step-father is much much older) do not need gifts, but you can't deny those rosy little children-cheeks!

  • I haven't started yet, but we've been thinking about it.

This year we are changing things up a little bit. For DH and I we are doing a joint gift - we both want a Wii & Wii Fit, so we're just going to buy that and nothing else since it's something we'll both enjoy. We don't need all that extra little stuff. For Aidan we're just going to stick with a few things and not go crazy like before. I feel like he has MILLIONS of toys already, that we shouldn't overdo it for Christmas.

For the families - last year we just did gifts for our 2 (3 this year) neices/nephews, and not their parents. They did the same - just bought for Aidan and not us. I think we're just going to do one joint gift for DH's parents and then 1 joint gift for my parents. Probably seperate gifts for my brother and sister.

  • My brother, sister, and sister-in-law's birthdays are in October and H's is in November.  I'm only beginning to think about those, then I'll let myself start working on Christmas.

  • Yes!! Last week I was in Sam's Club and I found some amazing deals in their seasonal aisles. I bought my daughter an easel table, a 5 pack of princess clickty clickty shoes, a Mr Men & Little Miss book set and a 6 pack of wooden puzzles. I am a Christmas Eve shopper and I have always wanted to start early but never got round to it. Now I'm going to start looking for things for the rest of my family and my in-law side. The DH does NOT give gifts to his parents/grandparents/brothers so I am usually scrambling to find something for them. Not this year!!!
