Advice - Southern Mansion - Cape May

Hi -

Have any of you had any experience with the Southern Mansion in Cape May? I just got engaged and am looking for a wedding venue for an intimate wedding (we want our ceremony outside at the same place and would prefer a place to stay over) and came across the Southern Mansion. I figured some of you former brides might have some advice! (either on the Southern Mansion or any other venue that you would recommend!)

 Thank you!

Re: Advice - Southern Mansion - Cape May

  • We were married in Cape May in October of 2005. We looked at a lot of locations and while we were impressed with the grounds of the Southern Mansion, if you don't basically rent out the entire place (rooms and all) you more or less are stuck with their basement reception area, which we didn't really care for.

Here are some other places we liked and I'll give you a few tidbits about each:

Congress Hall: Beautiful location, nice rooms, and good site for weddings onsite. Defintely more expensive,

The Chalfonte: Great southern looking mansion, no air conditioning, reasonably priced, opened from Memorial day to the last week in Sept. I'm not sure about onsite ceremony

Peter Shield's Inn: Small venue on a great location! Great menu and perfect for small intimate reception. Not sure about outdoor ceremony.

Hotel Alcott; This is where we had our reception. I know they have info about outdoor locations w/in a reasonable distance. Reasonably priced rooms and delicious menu.

Washington Inn: Great location for a morning/lunch reception. They don't do evening weddinsg (at least as of 2005). Awesome menu!!

I think there is a winery/vineyard on the island and the Washington Inn will cater the affair there. That's an idea for an onsite ceremony and reception.

Good luck and happy planning! Feel free to page me (I'm usually on the NNJ board)
