Halloween Housewarming Party

Hi I?m new here and have a question. I moved into my new home the end of May and everyone keeps asking when I am going to have my housewarming party. So I decided to be festive and have a Halloween themed house warming party on Halloween. I called everyone to make sure that they don?t already have plans and they don?t so can you please give me some ideas of games, drinks and foods that I should have at my party.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Halloween Housewarming Party

  • Sorry, I don't have any recipe ideas, but...

I think a spooky cocktail or punch would be fun!http://www.marthastewart.com/photogallery/halloween-cocktails?

Are you planning on having folks dress up?  Maybe a costume contest?

If not, how about you have little pumpkins and sharpies and have a pumpkin decorating contest.  No tools or cutting b/c it would be too messy if you have a lot of guests coming over.

Maybe you have some old-school candy from when you were a kid so everyone can get a little nostalgic about the holiday.

     Good luck, sounds like fun!

  • There are so many fun things you could do...

A "Pumpkin" themed menu and decorations - everything orange.  Pumpkin breads, soups, risotto and for dessert pumpkin cheesecake.  (I have a recipe for that which I can send you - if you like - I have to dig it up).

Or you could do an all out Halloween themed party with a "Haunted House" type of theme.  Oriental Trading has lots of those types of decorations. Lots of candles or lights.

It also depends I guess how you want to show off your house and who your guests are....

  • Hey!  I'm having a Hallowe'en housewarming, too!  My husband and I have just started talking about things.  So far we have these ideas:

    •  Costume party, for sure, with different categories like baby, school-age kid, scariest, cutest, most accurate representation (for people dressing as movie characters or whatever), etc.
    • We plan on providing treats that we just LIKE (our favorite cookies and muffins, etc) as well as some "scary" foods like eyeball cookies or gut-salad (spaghetti salad) and we'll have both alcoholic and non-alcoholic-but-still-awesome punch.
    • I'm thinking about doing a gourd-decorating activity with Sharpies and pipe-cleaners and stuff because I like art projects and some of the families we're inviting have children.
    • I'd like to do some bobbing for apples, but if there's some concern with all the spit floating around in the water (some people are weird about it - my generation totally didn't care) then you can tie some apples up by their stems and hang them from a tree or a doorway or something, and it's still just as hard to get a bite on the dang things.  ^_^

    My best-

    Shoshana
