Relocating to SA...need some area advice

My DH got orders to Lackland. He will be a part of the new 24th. Anyway, we will not have time to make a trip to scout out the area before we actually have to move (Nov.1).

We found a house online in the 78245 zip code. It is behind the Westlakes Mall. Anyone know anything about the area? TIA.

  • I don't know anything about that area, but there are a few Lackland girls on here that can help you out.

I noticed you are pregnant. Wilford Hall was an awesome place to deliver! It so surpasses all my expectations. Getting appts can be a pain though. If you have any problems, PM me. I have the phone number for the lady that does all the coordinating for all the OB docs. She helped me out a lot when I couldn't get appts through the appt line.

  • Thank you... I need to get in pretty quick when we get there considering we are moving Nov 1 and my due date is Dec 18...but I am having a repeat c-section and my doc here wanted to schedule it for Dec 11... doesn't leave a lot of time to wait Huh?

  • I'm not too familiar with the area, but my DH used to work out that way. He recommended looking North of Potranco (Westlakes Mall is on Marbach and 410) because those are newer neighborhoods. The ones between Marbach and Potranco are a bit older. There are also some new developments off of 90 just outside of 1604 and traffic isn't very bad on 90. Some of these are still outside of city limits so you won't have to pay city taxes. He did say to stay away from the area just south of the base (specifically Medina Base Rd) since it's not a very good part of town.

  • HI,

NOticed you posted this awhile ago and that you are moving today but i figured i would respond anyway. We recently relocated to SA (from Ramstein) and had our baby (3rd) a few weeks after arriving at Wilford Hall.

My husband works at Lackland and we've found that living on the south side of town enabled us to get a lot more home for our money. There's hardly any traffic near us and there's a Target & Walmart - Lowes & Home Depot 5 minutes away. Still crossing my fingers they build an Old Navy one of these days

If you're still looking there are a bunch of houses (new to 2 years old) open in my neighborhood "Greenway Terrace" 78223

    Good Luck with the baby

BTW - my daughters name is Caroline, my oldest was born on Dec 19th and my 3rd was born via C-section. I just felt compelled to respond :-)

Let me know if you need help with anything when you arrive - from one military family to another - we know how stressful moving just before the holidays can be.
