Need recs in Memphis

My sister just moved to Clarksdale, MS and my brother and I will be going out to visit her in October.  We plan to spend the most time in Memphis, since that's the largest city near her, but need some ideas of fun things to do.

We definitely want to go to Graceland, but what else would you recommend to do there?  Thanks!!

  • Go to the zoo. it was voted best in the country this year. And if you go on certain days, you can see Zoo Boo.  Graceland, National Metal Museum, Sun Studios, National Civil Rights Museum are just some that come to mind.
  • Ditto to the pp. The Civil Rights Museum, the Zoo, Brooks Museum of Art, Beale Street. You'll have plenty to do here!
image "There's a very simple test to see if something is racist. Just go to a heavily populated black area, and do the thing that you think isn't racist, and see if you live through it." ~ Reeve on the Clearly Racist Re-Nig Bumper Sticker and its Creator.
  • Pick up a copy of...ok, you live in OR, never mind...have *her* pick up a copy of Oct's Southern Living.  There's actually an article that outlines all the things to do on Route 61 between Memphis and Clarksdale.  The article isn't on their website yet, but should be soon.

If it interests you, the BB King museum in Indianola is an amazing look at the history of American music and the Civil Rights movement.  It'll take you a couple hours to get through the museum, it's so in depth.  There are a few cute shops and an incredible eatery, Nola, there so you could make an afternoon of it.
