Been to the pocono's?

We are going on our honeymoon next week to a b & b in the pocono's.  Specifically, the town is Delaware Water Gap which is a mile or so outside of Stroudsburg, PA.  Has anyone been to the area?  What should we do or check out?  Any restaurant reccommendations?

Re: Been to the pocono's?

  • I went for a weekend 7 years ago. All I remember is a great little candle shop near the outlets. Have fun on your honeymoon!
  • I lived in the Poconos until I was 12, so I'm not a ton of help, but if you like hiking Bushkill Falls is a lot of fun.

Dansbury Depot in downtown E. Stroudsburg was fun (it's a former train station), but I don't know what it's like anymore.

  • I'm from that area. There's not too much up there in my opinion. But I agree with PPs. I think Bushkill Falls is a must see. And I really do enjoy the Dansbury Depot as well. I haven't been there for a few years though.

There's a really adorable restaurant on Main Street in Stroudsburg called Everybody's Cafe. Its got a lot of interesting, slightly different food but its in an old house so the rooms are cozy and have lots of character.

The Stroudsmoor has a good restaurant and cute gift shop.

That's all I can think of right now. Have fun!

  • I've been to the Dealware Water Gap area a few times, but it's been at least 12 years since my last visit.  It's a cute area from what I remember...if you enjoy outdoorsy stuff, I think you'll enjoy it.  I know you can do rafting or canoe tours, but not sure how late in the season they offer this.  I also remember taking a trolley tour of the area and the driver/guide would tell you some of the history or tell you more about the other "sites" in the area.  I know we toured some caves on our own, ones that our tour guide pointed out.  I think both times I was there it was very early fall and can vaguely remember a cute nursery/gift shop all decked out for the season, cute restaurants, and antique shops too...can't recall any specific names though.

Tannersville is close by, great outlet shopping there.

Bushkill Falls is great!  I always enjoy our time there.  They have a few activities to do in that area: mini golf, paddle boats, gift shops, ice cream parlor/snack shop. (ETA: my parents honeymooned at Bushkill Falls!)

On your way home, I also recommend a stop in Jim Thorpe (if you have the time) and do a Lehigh Gorge railroad tour and browse around the town.  Lots of cute shops, places to eat/grab a drink.  Enjoy your honeymoon!
