Satellite radio or HD radio?

My birthday is coming up and I'm wondering which might be better.  Anyone have either of these? Pros? Cons?

Re: Satellite radio or HD radio?

  • I don't have HD or know anyone who has it, but I bought DH Sirius a couple of Christmas's ago...LOVE it.  I wound up buying a second receiver for my car a few months later.  I'm not sure how I survived without it.
Damn you Nest for screwing up my siggy!

  • I'd just rather use my iPod than pay 120 bucks a year to listen to music. Huh?

You seem to imply that you never spend any money on new music.  With satellite radio you can listen to tons of new music.

That being said, we have satellite radio and love it.  The consistency of always being able to have your favorite stations available on vacations is amazing.  It gives us the great option of being able to switch from songs we know (iPod) to songs we might not know (Satellite) whenever we want.

  • DH and I both love our Sirius radios.  As for the cost, you can get the kind with the "a la carte" option in which you choose your stations and only pay about $10 a month, rather than putting all the money out at once.
  • My parents have Sirius and love it. It's got so many stations on it that you can never NOT find something to listen to.

I haven't gotten one for my car yet, so I just have Pandora on my BB and plug it into my car stero. But I can't wait to get my Sirius radio.

And the satellite radio has introduced me to new music to put on my iPod that I may not have even found in the first place.

    Vacation
  • Our new car came with a few months of free satellite radio and DH got hooked. It is an expense, but it can be really nice too. I can't tell you how many times we have made complete fools of ourselves while listening to the "90's on 9." We do curse it sometimes though. We lose signal when we get stopped under a bridge and even on certain roads with lots of trees.

That said, you do have to wonder how long satellite radio will be around. Even after XM and Sirius merged, they are still having a lot of financial problems. I wouldn't be surprised if they filed bankruptcy.

  • My FIL has sirius and loves it.

  • Both DH and I have a combo of Sirius and XM in our cars.  I rarely listen to regular radio anymore.  I have quite a few favorite stations I am happy with.  There is always something to listen to.  There are also decade stations for the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s if you want a flashback.  I also have it on my iphone.  I don't mind paying for music if it is something I want.  I barely buy CDs or music downloads.  I feel I don't need to.
  • I've had Sirius since 06. I will NEVER go back to regular radio. EVER. I love it. I listen to Cosmo radio in the afternoon and jam out to any and every type of music. I would go with Satellite radio just because I don't think HD radio is really worth it. Having commercial free radio on the other hand is wonderful.
