Anyone feed their dogs Nutro?

DH and I got our puppy today (if you are facebook friends with me, then you can see my posted pictures). However, I mistaked the food I was looking for and bought the wrong thing.

I'm hoping not to feed her the whole bag and would like to switch her to what I'm looking for. I'm looking to sell it to someone (although it might be a long shot).

It's 'Nutro Natural Choice large breed puppy (the lamb mix). It's the 17.5 pound bag and it was $33. There is 1 cup out, and possibly 1.5 more after breakfast. I'm looking to hand it off to someone for $20. I can deliver it, I just don't want it to go to waste.

I know it's a long shot, but I thought I'd ask!

Re: Anyone feed their dogs Nutro?

  • Some stores take food back if you are not happy with it, so you may want to check into that.  You could also donate it to a shelter or a rescue.  However, with that being said, IMO Nutro dogfood is not the best and I would be very hesitant about giving it to my dogs.  They have changed their recipes without any notification and a lot of dogs became ill.  They also have less than sound business practices.  However, I understand if you've bought it and need to use it.  ANytime you switch food though, you should mix the old food with the new and phase it in.  Otherwise your dog could end up with some tummy issues.

  • Yea, I realized that after I got it home and fed her dinner. I looked it back up online for the rating and noticed it was NOT the one I wanted, and mixed something up. I would have tried to mix the new with the old, but they couldn't tell me what she was eating. The shelter feeds what is donated so the dogs food is always being changed. I decided last night that there was no way I was going to feed this to our puppy anymore, so I'm out to a Anderson Township Family Pet Center to go out and get what I wanted in the first place (Wellness puppy which is a 5 star food out of 6). I think I'm going to call pets mart and see if they will take it back (doubt it), if not I'm going to donate it to a shelter in the area. For dinner she will get a mix of the two. To me, it's not worth giving my puppy crappy food I spent $33 on just because I bought it.
  • Good choice.  If you have only fed it to her for one day, you shouldn't have to worry about mixing it.  Only if she has been on it for a sustained amount of time.  Anyway, I hope life with the new puppy is great!  We'd love tosee some pictures.
  • Just got back from getting her food. Got Innova puppy, which will be MUCH better. Instead of a 2 star (nutro), this is a 5 star. Wohoo, she starts it tonight so we will see how it goes! If you want to add me on facebook you can see some pictures that I uploaded. I'm not good at doing PIP, although I will eventually add a picture of her in my siggy. My name is Emily Monnin.
