Vancouver Island, that is...
My older sister just got married and it was amazing!! As with most weddings there were a few hiccups along the way and a few almost-disasters, but in the end, they got married, and had a great time at the reception so in the end, that's what matters, right?
She decided to have the BM's in kimonos, which was A LOT of work, but it was very well received from the guests, most who had never really seen one IRL. She also had a Japanese sake ceremony, so BIL's family were thrilled to be a part of that.
She wasn't happy with her hair or make-up, and to be honest, non of us were happy with ours either. BM's hair and make-up took way too long. I can understand it taking a long time for the bride, but... let's just say the stylists were no Beverly Kaneshige's for those of you who know how efficient she and her gals are!
The salon we went to used that airbrush foundation stuff but it looked horrible on all of us, like completely caked on. Then by the end of the night we all looked like pandas because of all the dark eye-makeup the MA's used (and this was before anyone cried). I can understand a bit of smudging but this was exessive. My sis didn't have time for a trial session, nor did we have time for them to re-do anything.
I felt so bad for my sister because I could tell she wasn't happy with her H&M, but she still looked amazing for the ceremony and reception.
Oh, a lot of the guests were OOT and used googlemap to find the ceremony site. Googlemap had the wrong exit so the poor guests were were driving in circles on and off the highway!
Anyway, in the end, everything worked out and we were getting compliments all night on the kimonos and all the special touches my sis and BIL had put into it.
It felt like a very long weekend with very little sleep so I'm glad to be back in Vancouver!
Re: Back from VI with a new BIL!!
Thanks, ladies! I've got about a billion pics to sort through but here's one of me and DH in traditional garb.
He got changed for the sake ceremony and had to stand in front of my aunt in his undies while she fitted it on him! Awkward!
Ugh, sorry that the makeup was so awful, I really hope that it doesn't come out that way in the pictures!! That's awesome that you guys were kimonos, how beautiful!
And your hubby getting dressed by your aunties... that's so typical Asian though, isn't it? I can totally picture my mom or aunts doing something like that, being totally no nonsense about it and them not being embarassed at all! Of course you couldn't say the same thing for the hubby getting clothes though, huh?
Glad you had fun!
sorry there were a few concerns, but you are right - they are married and that is what matters most!
You look so pretty in the pic you posted, and that is funny about your DH - what a trooper!
