My computer has the Windows PC defender trojan or whatever it is. I think I have figured out that it is some sort of virus, but was trying to figure out how to get rid of it. I have seen something on more than one site that claims it will remove it if you click on it, but am not sure that these aren't scams. Does anyone know anything about this?
Re: Computer virus help
don't click those. they're definitely spam. Don't click the x on the upper right hand corner either because those are embedded in the image/link.
You can close those by right clicking the name on the menu bar on the bottom and select close, or end task in the task manager.
Download this free anti-spyware program and run it. This is a good one that finds a lot of those trojans and will remove them. Even if you delete the program under Add and Remove Programs there may still be some traces of it in the registry. We use this to remove spyware at my job and it works great. It finds some trojans that Symantec doesn't

To find and get rid of a virus do the following:
reboot in safe mode with networking then go to either http://bitdefender.com or http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ and run their web-based scan.
To get to safe mode, reboot computer like normal, but before the windows loading logo pops up, start pressing the F8 key. Press it repeatedly until you get boot options.
I am also a fan of this. I had a problem that Symantec wasn't fixing and when I downloaded this--bingo! It is great.
