Ok, im really good at the having the baby thing. I mean, yeah it hurts and all, but i take it like a champ (lots of practice I think). But today, i had my appointment for my GD and she had me use the One Touch Machine on myself... Oh My Gosh, that really hurt. LoL! All i did was prick my own finger but DAMN..... i think finger pricks are worse then drawing blood! I think I limped out of the Cardiovascular center... haha..
On the plus side, i found out what my exact 3hr numbers were, and I am happy to say that only one of my numbers was off. One was RIGHT ON the line, but one was a little high (by like 5 points). The other two were wonderful. So i guess this is a precautionary thing. But still, now i have to prick my finger 4 times a day for the next 11 weeks... Im going to be the biggest baby ever!
Re: Ouch.. im such a baby...
omg, i feel for you, i also hated being a human pin cushion, you will get better and better at it though!!
good luck
She said with this machine, i would need to use the setting 7-9 (or is it 10). I did it at a 7 and it hurt so she said i could go down to a 6 or something if i needed too.
Andrea was OK. I could not believe she just had a baby. Maybe I am a bad guesser, but she looked "older" and I know im going to get crap for saying that, but she just almost seemed to be out of child bearing age, ha-ha! Dont tell her I said that though! I told her i "knew" you and she got right up and showed me her baby.
The appointment was good. I dont have "alot" of changes to make really. My biggest problem is I've been eating more carbgrams in the AM, and not enough for lunch time, so i have to reverse that. I also have to throw some sort of snack in there, but otherwise, it doesnt seem to be too much of a change. She said that i shouldnt eat Chinese or Pizza though (that part is going to STINK) because that is a "bad area" to go too... I learned alot, but left a little confused. I have to write down all my questions. I did not have enough time to really get them asked today as I had to get back to work. But Carl bought the book that gives us the carbgrams of just about everything so i've been reading that..
Yeah, she had her baby right around the same time I did. I actually don't even know if she had a boy or a girl! And, yes, she is older. I was surprised when I found out.
I'm very familiar with the OneTouch machines. They require very little blood. Make sure your hands are warm and try to massage your finger before stabbing. You should be able to turn it down as long as you can still get a drop of blood.
As far as the food goes, like I said, it's really not that bad. Chinese might be okay if you avoid the fried items. High fat foods cause delayed high blood sugars. I'd be happy to answer any questions you come up with.
Sarah, she did explain the delayed HBS to me, and it is weird to think i could eat chinese at 6, but the next day (12 hours later) my BS could be crazy out of wack. I guess I never realized that much.. She also suggested that I start taking Fish Oil for the DHA and some extra Iron, so hopefully I can stomache all of that.
Yes Lisa, it does hurt! I think it hurts more then when the vampires in the lab blow up my veins, ha-ha! Oh well.. It's better for us. Hopefully if i can do what I am supposed to do with this diet, i can keep doing it AFTER the baby is born. It might help me with my weight issues.
Haha! Beth you are right. I hadnt had a finger prick in quite a while. So this is really bothering me, ha-ha!
Oh sarah, after the baby is born, would you be able to direct me in how many carbs i should be eating with a break down? Andrea told me what i should have for breakfast, snack, lunch, snack and dinner and snack. So it is easy to figure out. She said the amounts and things change when you are NOT pregnant so i'd like to do that afterwards if i can.
Jess-
I hate those finger prick tests too! Once at the GYNs I I told them how much I hated them and how much they hurt (talk about a baby, right?) and they didn't make me do it
I am so sorry you have to do this- although I wouldn't want to have to give myself a shot every day for GD either. Glad to hear your numbers are better than anticipated and that you are keeping an eye on it.
Finger pricks hurt so bad! I always was afraid of having blood drawn so I made them take it from my finger. Little did I know that hurts worse!
I know it probably feels like a death sentence and forever but you are so close! Hang in there!
oh i did that once! not fun! and i would count to 3 and say ok now and not do it. i know i can handle pain too, but poking my finger is not on my top 10 things i like to do!
hopefully it will get better for you!!!!
