Need food suggestions for couples shower

My mom and I are hosting a couples shower together for my brother and his wife-to-be on October 24, starts at 6pm, and we're expecting 25-30 people.

Since we don't want to do a sit-down, plated meal with such a large crowd, we're looking for ideas of a things to serve that would be filling enough for a dinner but easy enough to eat if standing, grabbing a seat on the couch, etc.

We need a cross between an entree and a heavy appetizer... something like sliced beef tenderloin on mini sandwich buns, but we feel like we've overused that recently.

Providing the sides, snacks, desserts, etc. will be easy for us once we can determine the main.  Thanks in advance!

  • You could still do sandwiches but maybe a different kind like mini reubens and/or smoked salmon crostini.

Mini kabobs of grilled shrimp or chicken with a mango salsa would be interesting.

    Antipasto platters.

If you haven't already, check out allrecipes.com.  They've got a TON of appetizers and hors d'oeurves.

  • I've seen several really cute coed cowboy or bbq themed showers lately. You could do pulled pork, sliced brisket, etc.

  • Sliced roast turkey breast (not deli meat, but a whole breast or two sliced.)  You can have a cranberry mayo... yum!  Then maybe some meat balls for those who want meat variety.

  • Thanks!  These are good ideas.  Keep them coming if you have more!  :)
  • I'm not above sliders and pigs in a blanket... you can do turkey and veggie sliders to meet everyone's tastes.  Other ideas are sweedish meatballs or satay sticks (chicken, beef... variety of dipping sauces).

  • A spiral sliced ham or roast turkey. Serve sliced swiss, cheddar and brie on the side with a selection of rolls and croissant if people want to make a sandwich. A green salad as a side always is good.
  • wings, lil smokies, swedish meatballs, etc always work. Just keep them warm in a crock pot. a honey baked ham with cheese slices and rolls is also a good idea if you don't want warm.

  • We just went to a 1st birthday party with a similar demographic. They did french dip in a crock pot.  It was delicious.  I'm all for ham and biscuits/rolls with cranberry chutney for a party as well. I think it is easy and always well received.
  • Nacho Bar

    Chili Bar

Mini-burger Bar (make your own)--with variety of topping and meat options.
