I've been assigned as the travel coordinator for a sales training class. I need to book flights for about 17 of our reps to attend.
One of these reps lives in CA, and flies out of a teeny-tiny regional airport. Somehow, she expects to get direct and/or single-stop flights out of this place - across three time zones! This is our routine:
1. I find a flight out of her preferred airport and send it to her.
2. She hates it.
3. I explain that her tiny airport doesn't have better options.
4. She asks me to check another tiny airport that's a bit further away.
5. I send her a new flight from the second airport.
6. She hates it.
7. I explain again that tiny airports don't have the best options.
8. She asks me to check another medium-sized airport.
9. I send her a new flight from the third airport.
10. She huffs and puffs, complains about drive times and layovers and how sad it is that our company doesn't want to spend whatever it takes to make our reps' trips as simple as possible while they're traveling on company business, at the company's request, and then FINALLY makes a decision based on the time she will get home from whichever flight gets in earliest.
I just went through this exact same process with her last month. Okay, lady... let me explain something to you. If you want to fly out of a local airport, you get crap flights. If you want nice, easy flights, you have to drive to a larger airport. Change your home airport, or get ready for some loooong travel days. Now is the time to think about your life choices.

Re: adpi! another work story
Let me guess the airports are in So.Cal? Long Beach, Ontario, Burbank, etc....ya, when I lived in that area, we just knew that if we flew from Ontario, expect a much longer day. Or we could drive the 2 hours and fly out of L.A. So ya, choices is what's all about. Seriously, my thought though is WOW, she's lucky she has so many options to choose from. Most places, you get one airport and you deal with it. Remind her of that!! "My friend Sarah says deal with it Bitc*!"
Aren't other female co-workers just the best to deal with? I love it.
Ha! I was going to say the exact same thing about SoCal! The smaller airports certainly have their advantages if you're taking a shorter flight, but really, if you want the cheapest and simplest option, you have to go to LAX.
