Looking for a nice digital camera

My husband and I are currently looking into purchasing a nice digital camera.  We have a small every day digital camera.  Currently we have been looking at the Canon EOS Rebel XS 1000D and the Nikon D60 a0.2 PM Digital SLR. Does anyone have any other recommendations or prefer the Canon over the Nikon (vice verse)?

Re: Looking for a nice digital camera

  • I have an Olympus dSLR and absolutely LOVE it... but, given what you're looking at, I don't think you can really go wrong with either - it's just a personal preference.  Camera bodies come and go, but you'll want to invest good money in lenses.  So, decide which lenses you might want to go with and decide from there. :-)

Also, a trip to a brick and mortar store to actually feel, hold, and play around with each is invaluable. That's how I wound up with my Olympus - it fit me (and my shooting style) better than any of the others.

  • I have a Nikon d5000 and I like it so far.
  • I'll second the Nikon. Oftentimes it's personal preference on what just feels right though.

And I'll also second the D5000. For the money it's a bit more camera than the D60, which is a few years old.
