Good B&B outside of Hermann (in wine country)

I'm looking to stay at a B&B for our anniversary.  I saw below where many suggest the B&B in Hermann, which does look very nice.  However, I was hoping to try wineries in a different area, as I've been to Hermann.  Ste Gen, or even somewhere reasonably close in IL.

So many of the B&Bs I see online look so over the top crafty, and I'm not sure I would enjoy that.  I know how snobby that likely sounds.  I've never stayed at a B&B... maybe it's not for me.  But I would like to give it a try.  Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

 Thanks for your help!

Ellen

  • Instead of a B&B, have you thought about getting a nice hotel in downtown for the weekend?

We just stayed at the Four Seasons and had a wonderful time. They have an amazing spa, you could do a couples massage, great dining and a fab wine list.

Also another personal favorite is The Westin, we had our reception there.

If you go to a great hotel... they do all the hard work in finding the great wines for you!

     Just a thought...

  • A friend of mine was looking for exactly what you described, and she and her DH stayed at Tiger Ridge in Ste. Gen.  It's owned by Crown Valley wineries, and they have a shuttle that takes you to and from their winery so you don't have to drive.  It was her first stay at a B&B and she loved it.
  • This is right outside of Hermann...but thought others might be interested.  We stayed at The Healing Stone Retreat and Spa for our anniversary.  It was great!  It was my first time in a B&B, it was definitely different than staying at a hotel, but I got comfortable pretty quick.  I know what you mean about the flowers/frilly frou frou stuff at most B&B's I've seen...none of that at this place.  They've got great onsite massage/spa services, a sauna, huge hot tub and steam shower.  The breakfast was awesome!  www.healingstoneretreat.com
  • My husband and I stayed at Captain Wohlt's B&B in Hermann last summer for an anniversary. It was great! The rooms were very clean and cute. The food was great too. Kent and Mat Wilkins were the owners when we were there. I think the B&B is now for sale so I can only vouch for the place if the owners are the same. We had a great experience and the wineries are great too!
