GD

I'm surprised at how common it is. I think if Chrissy didn't have it, I wouldn't have known what it was.

How many of you had/have it?

Re: GD

  • My friend at work had it. It never went away for her :(
  • It can stick?

I wonder if additional weight gain or change in diet caused her to retain it? Or if she had diabetes already and it wasn't diagnosed?

My aunt was diagnosed just before she got pregnant and only because she had to have a physical before she had a surgery performed. I wonder if she wouldve been diagnosed with GD and then D after.

  • Did not have it in either pregnancy even though they say it is more common for us fat chicks :)

OMFG, Laura....I totally snorted my sprite zero! I *heart* you!

  • I had it with Jacoby but not with Noah
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • I had it (kind of) with Alex and I'll find out in a few months if I have it with this one. I failed 1/4 of the test, so I had what they called "impaired glucose tolerance."

It's actually more common than I knew. IIRC, up to 10% of PG women get it.

  • and Laura, I puffy heart you, too. That was great. That's two good laughs I've gotten off here today.
  • Britni she didn't retain the weight. She is not much bigger than I am. Supposedly, it can then go away with the second pregnancy, but for her it did not.
  • well then shes got something she can throw in the face of her kid when he's ungrateful. Instead of the traditional "I was in labor for 11 hours with you...yadda yadda yadda. She can add that she can't eat sugar any more too."
  • I had it and had to do 4 insulin shots a day. I was cleared at my 6 weeks checkup that my levels are completely normal but I still watch what I eat and I'm trying to loose weight so that I don't risk having Type II later. I was surprised how common it was as well, even Angelina Jolie has it.

Wow and she certainly is not heavy!!

  • and she looks anorexic. Wow!
  • diabetes in general is pretty common. 1 in 14 people have it
  • I had it- I failed 1/4 of it, so I had "impaired tolerance"... but my check first thing in the morning was always high, so I had to do a shot of insulin before bed.  Apparently there are some extra hormones in the morning that impair the breakdown of glucose when you're pregnant- making your diet/exercise not really change anything (well in my case, bc the numbers after meals were acceptable).

And the fat chick comment cracked me up haha
